KUHMO SOLUS KH16 P215/45R17-87H SIDEWALL CRACKING AND SEPARATION. STARTED AT 13K MILES AND FIRST COMPLETE FAILURE AT 15K MILES. ALL 4 ARE OEM TIRES ON A HYUNDAI ELANTRA TOURING AND ALL 4 TIRES HAVE DEVELOPED WEAR AND OTHER ISSUES OVER LIFE OF TIRES. VEHICLE NOT SAFE TO DRIVE DUE TO RISK OF BLOWOUT OF TIRES. HYUNDAI DEALER (FROM WHERE CAR WAS PURCHASED) WILL NOT EVEN LOOK AT TIRES AND STATES THAT I HAVE TO FIND AN INDEPENDENT TIRE DEALER THAT WILL DEAL WITH KUMHO, EVEN THOUGH TIRES ARE ORIGINAL TO CARE FROM THEIR DEALERSHIP AND HYUNDAI. NHTSA NEEDS TO OPEN AN INVESTIGATION INTO THESE TIRES, SINCE OTHER KUMHO TIRES HAVE FAILED IN THE SAME WAY, AND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ARE PRESENT ON THESE SPECIFIC TIRES. KUMHO WILL ONLY DIRECT YOU TO A TIRE DEALER, AND NO TIRE DEALER WANTS TO INSPECT THE TIRES THAT THEY DID NOT SELL (AGAIN OEM FOR THE CAR).
THE FRONT RIGHT TIRE DEVELOPED A LARGE BUBBLE IN THE SIDEWALL WITH NO INDICATION OF IMPACT DAMAGE. WAS REPLACED OUT OF POCKET AFTER TWO CHRYSLER DEALERSHIPS SAID CHRYSLER WOULD NOT COVER THE TIRE NO MATTER WHAT. I STILL HAVE THE DEFECTIVE TIRE AND THE DOT NUMBERS IF REQUESTED. IT WAS A KUMHO SOLUS 225/55/17.
Size p215/55r16 Tire blew out on the freeway. After close inspection discovered that the blown out tire had severe tread separation. After closer inspection of the other tires on the car, I discovered another tire identical to the blown out tire also has tread separation. The tires on the vehicle have a least one year of tread on them.
THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 DODGE JOURNEY EQUIPPED WITH KUMHO SOLUS KH16 TIRES, SIZE 225/65/R17 (NA). WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE WOULD SHAKE AND VIBRATE AND THE PSI SENSOR LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE SIDEWALL WAS SEPARATING ON THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE. THE TIRE WAS REPLACED, BUT THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL TIRE DEALER WHO DISCOVERED THAT THE ADDITIONAL THREE TIRES ALSO EXPERIENCED SIDEWALL SEPARATION AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE TIRES WERE NOT REPLACED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE TIRE AND VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
