In owners' own words

MICHELIN LATITUDE TOUR ALL SEASON TIRES HAD SIGNIFICANT CRACKING ALL THE WAY AROUND THE CIRCUMFERENCE OF THE TIRE ON THE SIDEWALL NEAR THE TREAD. TIRES WERE 2 YEARS OLD. SOME SUPERFICIAL CRACKS OTHERS WERE DEEP AND WIDE. 65,000 MILE WARRANTY, ONLY 25,000 MILES ON THE TIRES. SIZE P245/65R17 105T ORWL. ALL FOUR TIRES HAD SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE.
AT 42,039 MILES ON A 2011 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN MY WIFE EXPERIENCED A SUSPICIOUS BLOWOUT ON A 225/65X17 MICHELIN ENERGY SAVER A/S TIRE WITH A 100T RATING. THE DOT # IS: M33T 00KX 1711. THIS IS A 65,000 MILE TIRE. NO FOREIGN OBJECTS WERE STRUCK. THE AIR PRESSURE, TIRE ROTATIONS, AND ALIGNMENTS WERE DONE IN A TIMELY FASHION. I NO LONGER FELT SAFE ON THESE TIRES AND REPLACED ALL 4 WITH ANOTHER BRAND. THIS WAS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT.
THE TIRES ON MY 2009, MERCURY MARQUIS, ARE DRY ROTTED. I HAVE ALSO NOTED THAT THERE ARE HOLES IN THE SIDEWALLS ON ALL OF THEM ALONG WITH A LARGE BULGE IN THE RIGHT PASSENGER, SIDE TIRE WALL WITH A TEAR AND LARGE HOLE WHERE THE BULGE IS. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO LOOK UP ON THE WEB SITE TO SEE IF MY TIRES ARE IN THE RECALL LISTS WITH SOME DIFFICULTY. I SINCERLY HOPE YOU CAN HELP ME WITH THIS PROBLEM AS I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE NOW AND MY HUSBAND HAS SEVERE PARKINSONS DESEASE AND I AM AFRAID SOMETHING IS GOING TO HAPPEN TO HIM. THANK YOU! I WILL BE LOOKING FORWARD TO YOUR RESPONSE.
ALL FOUR TIRES ON 2011 MERCEDES E550 HAVE TREAD SEPARATION. TREAD SEPARATION IS OCCURRING ON THE BACK SIDE OF THE TIRE AND IS UNKNOWN UNTIL THE TIRE BEGINS TO LOSE TIRE PRESSURE. TIRES ARE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT MICHELIN RADIAL X TIRES. FAILURE BETWEEN 38,000-40,000 MILES.
Complaints are voluntarily submitted to the NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation and are not verified by NHTSA; they represent owner-reported problems, not proven defects. Counts can be useful as a relative quality signal across comparable tires or vehicles.

Michelin defender 2: what the numbers tell you
The Defender 2's UTQG treadwear rating of 800 puts it in the long-wear class. Its compound is engineered for life over outright grip, which is appropriate for an everyday touring tire. The 80,000-mile warranty is one of the most concrete data points for a tire. It is the manufacturer's own statement of compound durability under normal use. Warranty replacement is typically prorated, so it will not fully offset the cost of a new tire, but the warranty length is a reasonable expectation of useful tread life.
Cabin noise of 68 dB (EU label) is on the quieter end of the segment. This tire will fade into the background at highway speeds. As a all-season tire built for the touring segment, the Defender 2 is positioned against direct rivals within the same category. Comparing it to a tire in a different category (e.g. summer vs all-season) makes the spec sheet misleading because the design targets are not the same.
Long-wearing all-season touring tire; replaced the Defender T+H. Marketed for 80k-mile life. Compound favors wear over outright grip.
