Type any tire size below; we'll compute its overall-diameter delta against the OEM 235/80R17 and verdict using the ETRTO ±3% rule.
Common upgrade paths
- Plus-1: 235/75R18; one rim size up, 0.24% OD change. Sharper steering, mild ride penalty, modest cost premium.
- Plus-2: 215/75R19; two rim sizes up, -0.33% OD change. Noticeable ride penalty, higher pothole risk, meaningful tire-cost premium.
Use the plus-size calculator to evaluate any rim step against the OEM size.
How to choose tires for the 2024 ram 3500 tradesman-dual-rear-wheel
The 2024 Ram 3500 Tradesman-Dual-Rear-Wheel ships from the factory on 235/80R17 tires mounted on R17 wheels. Only one approved fitment is documented for this model year, so replacement options should match the original size exactly unless a plus-size upgrade is being considered. The Compatible alternative sizes table above lists every safe substitution within the ETRTO ±3% overall-diameter tolerance.
Tire choice on the Ram 3500 comes down to three trade-offs that matter more than brand loyalty: load index (must equal or exceed the OEM number), speed rating (must match or exceed the placard), and UTQG treadwear (higher means longer life, lower usually means stickier rubber). Owners replacing factory tires with the same compound class, for example all-season for all-season, generally see no change in ride characteristics or fuel economy. Switching categories (performance summer to all-season touring, for example) is where the trade-offs show up at the contact patch.
For 2024 Ram 3500 Tradesman-Dual-Rear-Wheel owners considering a plus-size upgrade, the safer option is a Plus-1 step (one rim size up with a 10-point aspect drop and ~10 mm of additional section width). Plus-2 is technically viable on this chassis if the alternative-sizes table lists a Plus-2 candidate within tolerance, but expect a meaningful ride-harshness penalty and a tire-cost premium of 30–60% per tire relative to the OEM fitment. For winter use the recommended pattern is one width step down (e.g. from a 235 to a 225) with the aspect ratio bumped up to preserve overall diameter; narrower tires apply higher contact pressure per square inch on snow, which translates directly into shorter braking distances. The plus-size calculator evaluates any specific rim step against this OEM size.
Before purchasing, verify the tire size on the driver-door placard of your specific 2024 Ram 3500 Tradesman-Dual-Rear-Wheel, since trim levels and option packages can shift the original fitment from what is documented here. The placard reading is the authoritative source per FMVSS 110, and dealers will reference the placard rather than aftermarket catalogs when validating warranty claims.

THE TPMS (TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM) QUIT READING THE TIRE PRESSURE ON MY TRUCK WITHIN THE FIRST FEW HUNDRED MILES OF OWNERSHIP. MY TRUCK HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR A TOTAL OF 6 TIMES FOR 8-10 DAYS FOR THIS ISSUE. THE DEALER COULD NOT FIGURE WHY THE SYSTEM QUIT....THEY HAVE REPLACED THE SENSORS, THE RF HUB, ETC. I HAVE JUST OVER 7,000 MILES ON THIS TRUCK AND THEY FINALLY GOT IT TO WORK CORRECTLY ABOUT A MONTH AGO. THIS WEEK, IT HAS STOPPED FUNCTIONING AGAIN. IF THE NHTSA REQUIRES THESE SYSTEMS TO BE ON VEHICLES FOR SAFETY, THEN CHRYSLER/MOPAR/DODGE SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE.
2013 RAM 3500 QUAD CAB DUALLY - GENERAL AMERITRAC LT235/80R17, IN BETWEEN TREAD SURFACE IN THE GROVE THEY ALL STARTED TO SPLIT ALL (6 TIRES) AFFECTED. AMERICAS TIRE RECOMMENDED REMOVAL ASAP, IF I CONTINUED TO USE THEM ON THE VEHICLE IT WOULD LEAD TO TIRE FAILURE. HAVE PICTURES.
THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 RAM 3500 EQUIPPED WITH NEXEN TIRES, SIZE: LT23580R17E (NA) THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE OUTSIDE EDGE OF THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIRE WAS ROTTEN AND RUBBER WAS CHIPPING OFF. THE CONTACT REMOVED AND REPLACED THE TIRE WITH THE SPARE. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE A DEALER TO REPLACE THE TIRE. THE TIRE WAS ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE TIRE LINE WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE TIRE AND VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,600.
THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 RAM 3500 EQUIPPED WITH NEXEN RODIAN HT XRX5 TIRES, SIZE: LT235/80/R17 (NA). WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE SHOOK. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT BOTH FRONT TIRES EXPERIENCED TREAD SEPARATION. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THE TIRES WERE REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED TO THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE. THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE WAS NOT REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE TIRES WERE ENTRY LEVEL TIRES AND SHOULD NOT BE ON THE VEHICLE. THE APPROXIMATE VEHICLE AND TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 6,500.
Complaints are voluntarily submitted to the NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation and are not verified by NHTSA; they represent owner-reported problems, not proven defects. Counts can be useful as a relative quality signal across comparable tires or vehicles.
