The evidence base

54Written owner reports
2Reported crashes
4Reported injuries

Crash, injury and death figures are the counts owners themselves reported to NHTSA when filing.

What owners described

Blowout or sudden deflation is the most common description, in 28% of these reports. Percentages are shares of the 54 reports filed against the Uniroyal Tigerpaw across every vehicle it was fitted to that include a written account; a single report can describe more than one problem, so they do not total 100%.

Tire size: P 175 / 65R 15 84 H I purchased these tires through Walmart in 2022. Now, all 4 of my tires have had multiple cracks in the sidewalls. The front passenger tire was flat when I went to drive, and was replaced with a new tire of the same kind on XXX. I don't feel safe driving with these tires knowing they can deflate at any given moment. There should be a recall issued by the manufacturer. The mechanics at Walmart Auto said that this is not normal for [XXX] tires, and I'm looking for a way I can be refunded.S.C. 552(B)(6)

WE HAD A FLAT TIRE DUE TO A NAIL AND TOOK IT TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP. HE SAID HE WOULD NOT PATCH THE HOLE BECAUSE BOTH REAR TIRES WHERE SHOWING TREAD SEPARATION AND HE DID NOT WANT TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR AN ACCIDENT WHEN THE TIRE FAILED. I WENT TO A UNIROYAL DEALER AND THEY WOULD ONLY CREDIT ME 40% OF THE COST OF NEW TIRES. THEY ARE DEFECTIVE TIRES AND I DO NOT FEEL RESPONSIBLE TO PAY TO HAVE A DEFECTIVE PRODUCT REPLACED. WE OBVIOUSLY NEED THESE REPLACED IMMEDIATELY AS WE ARE TRAVELING TO FLORIDA WITH A TRAILER THIS SUNDAY AND I AM NOT SURE WHAT TO DO. AM I ENTITLED TO HAVE THESE REPLACED FREE OR NOT. THE TIRE TREAD IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AND SHOULD NOT NEED TO BE REPLACED AT THIS TIME. (TIRESIZE: P20575R15)

How to read this

Complaints are voluntarily submitted to the NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation and are not verified by NHTSA. They are owner-reported problems, not proven defects, and volume tracks how many of a tire were sold as much as how often it failed. What is comparable is the mix: which problems owners describe here versus across every tire complaint on file. That comparison, the mileage distribution and the mode rankings on this page are our analysis of the public record.

FAQ

What goes wrong with Uniroyal Tigerpaw tires?
Across 54 written complaints, the most common description is blowout or sudden deflation, in 28% of reports; about 1.4× as often as across all tire complaints. A single report can describe more than one problem.
Is the Uniroyal Tigerpaw recalled?
Complaints are not recalls. A complaint is a voluntary, unverified owner report; a recall is an official campaign requiring a free remedy. Check the current recall status by DOT date code at the NHTSA recall lookup; that is the only authoritative answer for your specific tire.
At what mileage do Uniroyal Tigerpaw tires fail?
Of the owners who stated an odometer reading, the middle report is at 32,000 miles, with 8 in 10 between 10,000 and 140,000 miles. These are failures, not typical tire life; nobody files a complaint about a tire that wore out normally.
Have Uniroyal Tigerpaw failures caused crashes?
Owners reported 2 crashes and 4 injuries when filing. NHTSA publishes these as reported and does not verify them.
