In owners' own words

Verbatim excerpts from complaints filed with NHTSA about Hankook Kinergy GT. Reports are published by NHTSA as filed and are lightly cleaned here only to remove intake codes.

Hankook Kinergy GT 235 / 60 R 18 130H The driver's side front tire burst on 12/24/2021. The tire split, almost like a re-tread (see pictures). I suspect a sidewall structure/reinforcement failure. This could/should have caused a rollover like the tire failures and accidents of Ford Explorers and other light trucks/SUV's fitted with Firestone Radial ATX, ATX II, and Wilderness tires in the late 90's and early 2000's. Pacific Honda Dealer replaced the tire and disposed the detached and burst tire on 12/28/2021. When the tire burst on highway, I barely managed to pull over to the left side since it was pulling in various directions, so my safety was at risk. There was no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure.

The contact stated that while having the car washed, she noticed that the driver's side front and rear tires had a bubble on the sidewall. The contact called the local dealer, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 48,000.

NHTSA complaint 1981093

The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Equinox equipped with Hankook Tires, Tire Line: Kinergy GT, Tire Size: 235/50/R19, DOT Number 00T231BH03623. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, there was vibration coming from the vehicle, and the contact became aware that the stopping distance was extended while coming to a stop on wet roads. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local tire shop, where it was determined that all four tires needed to be replaced due to premature wear. The contact stated that the wear marker was visible on all the tires. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact called the manufacturer and was referred to the tire manufacturer, who advised the contact that the tires were manufactured as requested by the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 25,316.

NHTSA complaint 2127459

P235 /40 R19 92V tires came with 2023 vehicle purchase. Two years following purchase, there are 2 large sidewall cracks at 32,000 miles for the front driver side tire even though the manufacturer mileage warranty is 70,000 miles. One out of four tires exhibiting this issue. Find this to be a huge safety concern as I was unaware of the cracks and there were no air leak/pressure issues sensed.

NHTSA complaint 2135086

Complaints are voluntarily submitted to the NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation and are not verified by NHTSA; they represent owner-reported problems, not proven defects. Counts can be useful as a relative quality signal across comparable tires or vehicles.

Hankook kinergy GT: what the numbers tell you

Manufacturer treadwear data for the Kinergy GT is not publicly listed. This is common for OEM-only or track-day tires that don't carry a US treadwear warranty. No mileage warranty is published for this tire, which is typical for performance summer and track-day rubber where the manufacturer doesn't make wear-life claims.

Cabin noise data for this tire is not published by the manufacturer. As a general tire built for the passenger segment, the Kinergy GT is positioned against direct rivals within the same category. Comparing it to a tire in a different category (e.g. summer vs all-season) makes the spec sheet misleading because the design targets are not the same.
