How to choose tires for the 2008 nissan rogue

The 2008 Nissan Rogue ships from the factory on 225/60R17 tires mounted on R17 wheels. 2 approved fitments are documented for this model year, allowing some flexibility between performance, comfort, and winter compounds. The Compatible alternative sizes table above lists every safe substitution within the ETRTO ±3% overall-diameter tolerance.

Tire choice on the Nissan Rogue comes down to three trade-offs that matter more than brand loyalty: load index (must equal or exceed the OEM number), speed rating (must match or exceed the placard), and UTQG treadwear (higher means longer life, lower usually means stickier rubber). Owners replacing factory tires with the same compound class, for example all-season for all-season, generally see no change in ride characteristics or fuel economy. Switching categories (performance summer to all-season touring, for example) is where the trade-offs show up at the contact patch.

For 2008 Nissan Rogue owners considering a plus-size upgrade, the safer option is a Plus-1 step (one rim size up with a 10-point aspect drop and ~10 mm of additional section width). Plus-2 is technically viable on this chassis if the alternative-sizes table lists a Plus-2 candidate within tolerance, but expect a meaningful ride-harshness penalty and a tire-cost premium of 30–60% per tire relative to the OEM fitment. For winter use the recommended pattern is one width step down (e.g. from a 235 to a 225) with the aspect ratio bumped up to preserve overall diameter; narrower tires apply higher contact pressure per square inch on snow, which translates directly into shorter braking distances. The plus-size calculator evaluates any specific rim step against this OEM size.

Before purchasing, verify the tire size on the driver-door placard of your specific 2008 Nissan Rogue, since trim levels and option packages can shift the original fitment from what is documented here. The placard reading is the authoritative source per FMVSS 110, and dealers will reference the placard rather than aftermarket catalogs when validating warranty claims.

HELLO: MY NAME IS [XXX] I AM THE PROUD OWNER OF A 2011 ROGUE WITH APPROXIMATELY 21,000 MILES. BUT I HAVE A VERY SERIOUS COMPLAINT SINCE I HAVE THE OWNED THE VEHICLE MY FIANCE HAS HAD TO TAKE OFF TO BRING THE CAR IN FOR THE TPMS SENSOR UNIT NEARLY EVERY OTHER MONTH SINCE OWNING THE VEHICLE. MY CONCERN IS THAT THIS COST THE FACTORY ON OR ABOUT $200.00 PER VISIT. WHEN THE WARRANTY ELAPSE IS NISSAN SAYING THIS WILL BE ON ME? IS THERE A CALL BACK ON THIS MALFUNCTION? IS THERE A RESOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM OR HAS THE PROBLEM BEEN ADDRESSED BEFORE SOMEONE IS FATALLY INJURED? THE DEALER IS SAYING THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM BUT WITHOUT AN RESOLUTION., JUST BRING IT IN. BUT THEY ARE NORMALLY REPLACING THE SENSOR UNIT EACH TIME. [XXX]S.C. 552(B)(6).

THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 NISSAN ROGUE EQUIPPED WITH YOKOHAMA YK580 TIRES, SIZE: 225/60/R17 (NA). WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO VIBRATE. THE CONTACT CONTINUED DRIVING AND THE VIBRATION WORSENED. THE CONTACT COASTED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND NOTICED A BRAKE CHECK AUTOMOBILE CENTER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE CENTER AND THE MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRE HAD A BUBBLE WITH TREAD SEPARATION AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE TIRE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT LATER TOOK THE TIRE TO DISCOUNT TIRES (LOCATED ON 10331 BROADWAY ST, PEARLAND TX 77584) AND THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRE WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT SHE HAD GONE OVER THE MILEAGE FOR THE WARRANTY AND WAS SUPPOSED TO REPLACE THE TIRE AT 60,000 MILES. THE TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,389 AND THE VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 11,542.

I BOUGHT MICHELIN TIRES (PREMIER LTX- 225/65 R17 102H SL BSW GM) WITH WARRANTY OF 60K MILES. I DROVE 25K MILES AND IT IS WORE OUT. I BOUGHT THE MOST EXPENSIVE TIRES AS IT IS MY FAMILY CAR. I COMPLAINED TO MICHELIN AND THEY DON'T THINK IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS IT IS PRORATED WARRANTY IT IS NOT A GUARANTEE. THEY COULDN'T ANSWER THE QUESTION THAT IF I TRUST THAT THE TIRES WILL RUN AROUND 60K AND THEY NEED CHANGE AT AROUND 25 IS CONSIDERED A PRODUCT FAILURE OR NOT, THEY MENTIONED THAT THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT AND I HAVE TO CHANGE THE 4 TIRES. I WOULD LIKE TO ADDRESS IT AS A SAFETY ISSUE AS THE TIRES ARE NOT SAFE AS ADVERTISED. MY COMPLAINT NUMBER AT MICHELIN IS [XXX].S.C. 552(B)(6).

Frequently asked questions

What size tires fit a 2008 Nissan Rogue?
The OEM tire size for the 2008 Nissan Rogue is 225/60R17 mounted on R17 wheels.. Trim levels and option packages can shift the original fitment; confirm against your specific vehicle's driver-door placard before purchase.
What is the bolt pattern of a 2008 Nissan Rogue?
The 2008 Nissan Rogue has a 5x114.3 bolt pattern with a 66.1 mm center bore and M12x1.25 wheel studs. Bolt pattern is consistent across the model generation; confirm against your existing wheel before fitting aftermarket wheels or adapters.
Can I run a different tire size on my 2008 Nissan Rogue?
Plus-sizing (larger rim, lower aspect) is possible within ±3% of the OEM overall diameter per the ETRTO safe-fit standard. The Compatible alternative sizes table on this page lists every safe option for the OEM size. Always confirm with the manufacturer or a qualified tire shop before deviating from the placard.
Where can I buy tires for my 2008 Nissan Rogue?
Online tire retailers in our affiliate network carry every size documented for this vehicle. Use the Shop online buttons above to compare prices across them; variance of $20–$40 per tire is common between merchants. The install cost calculator estimates the out-the-door including mount, balance, TPMS, and disposal by state.
What is the recommended tire pressure for the 2008 Nissan Rogue?
The cold-inflation pressure is printed on the driver-door placard of your specific vehicle and varies by trim, tire size, and loaded vs unloaded condition. Typical OEM front and rear pressures fall between 30 and 36 psi for passenger trims and 32–40 psi for SUV/truck variants, but the placard is the authoritative source.
Can I fit winter tires in a different size on my 2008 Nissan Rogue?
Yes; the standard winter-tire fitment pattern is one width step narrower than OEM (e.g. 225 → 215) with the aspect ratio bumped up to preserve overall diameter. Narrower tires increase contact pressure on snow for better traction. The Compatible alternative sizes table includes any winter-friendly options that fall within ±3% OD for this vehicle.
How often should I rotate the tires on my 2008 Nissan Rogue?
Every 5,000–7,500 miles is the typical OEM recommendation for passenger vehicles. AWD vehicles and high-torque trucks benefit from the shorter interval. Documented rotation history is also a tire-warranty prerequisite; most manufacturer treadwear claims require rotation receipts at the warranty inspection.
