Check a different size against this vehicle
Type any tire size below; we'll compute its overall-diameter delta against the OEM 205/70R16 and verdict using the ETRTO ±3% rule.
Common upgrade paths
- Plus-1: 175/75R17; one rim size up, 0.13% OD change. Sharper steering, mild ride penalty, modest cost premium.
- Plus-2: 215/55R18; two rim sizes up, 0.04% OD change. Noticeable ride penalty, higher pothole risk, meaningful tire-cost premium.
Use the plus-size calculator to evaluate any rim step against the OEM size.
How to choose tires for the 2010 jeep patriot
The 2010 Jeep Patriot ships from the factory on 205/70R16 tires mounted on R16 wheels. 4 approved fitments are documented for this model year, allowing some flexibility between performance, comfort, and winter compounds. The Compatible alternative sizes table above lists every safe substitution within the ETRTO ±3% overall-diameter tolerance.
Tire choice on the Jeep Patriot comes down to three trade-offs that matter more than brand loyalty: load index (must equal or exceed the OEM number), speed rating (must match or exceed the placard), and UTQG treadwear (higher means longer life, lower usually means stickier rubber). Owners replacing factory tires with the same compound class, for example all-season for all-season, generally see no change in ride characteristics or fuel economy. Switching categories (performance summer to all-season touring, for example) is where the trade-offs show up at the contact patch.
For 2010 Jeep Patriot owners considering a plus-size upgrade, the safer option is a Plus-1 step (one rim size up with a 10-point aspect drop and ~10 mm of additional section width). Plus-2 is technically viable on this chassis if the alternative-sizes table lists a Plus-2 candidate within tolerance, but expect a meaningful ride-harshness penalty and a tire-cost premium of 30–60% per tire relative to the OEM fitment. For winter use the recommended pattern is one width step down (e.g. from a 235 to a 225) with the aspect ratio bumped up to preserve overall diameter; narrower tires apply higher contact pressure per square inch on snow, which translates directly into shorter braking distances. The plus-size calculator evaluates any specific rim step against this OEM size.
Before purchasing, verify the tire size on the driver-door placard of your specific 2010 Jeep Patriot, since trim levels and option packages can shift the original fitment from what is documented here. The placard reading is the authoritative source per FMVSS 110, and dealers will reference the placard rather than aftermarket catalogs when validating warranty claims.

WHEN THE WEATHER TURNED COLD THE TIRE SENSOR LIGHT CAME ON. I ASKED AT THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT IT AND THEY SAID IT IS SO COLD OUT THAT YOU LOSE A BIT OF PRESSURE AND ONCE THE WEATHER TURNS WARM THE LIGHT WILL TURN OFF. THE WEATHER IS NOW IN THE 50-60 DEGREE RANGE AND I JUST HAD AN OIL CHANGE WITH TIRE PRESSURE CHECKED AND THE LIGHT IS STILL ON. I DO NOT WANT TO PAY A LOT OF MONEY TO GET THIS FIXED BECAUSE NOW I THINK IT IS A BAD SENSOR. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE IF I IGNORE IT AND A REAL PROBLEM I COULD GET INTO AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF LOW TIRE PRESSURE WHICH COULD RESULT IN SEVERE INJURY OR DEATH AND WOULD FOLLOW A MAJOR LAWSUIT BECAUSE WE HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH THIS PROBLEM FOR A FEW MONTHS NOW AND I NOTICE THAT OTHERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS SAME PROBLEM. PLEASE A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE GETS INJURED.
FIRST DAY DRIVING NEW 2015 JEEP PATRIOT, TRAVELING AT LEGAL SPEED ON STATE HIGHWAY, REAR DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE BLEW. HOT DAY, LOOKS LIKE BELT SEPARATION, LOUD POP AND CUT ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE TIRE. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER TO SIDE OF HIGHWAY. CALLED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. VERY CONCERNED NOW ABOUT THE TIRES. THE ARE FIRESTONE AFFINITY TOURING T4-P215/60R17 TIRES. THE TWO FRONT TIRES HAVE A DIFFERENT AFB THAN THE REAR TIRES. AFB 4214 IS ON THE ORIGINAL REAR TIRE. AFB 4414 ON THE FRONT. NO DATE OF MANUFACTURE LISTED ON TIRES.
THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 JEEP PATRIOT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR WARNING INDICATOR CONTINUED TO ILLUMINATE. ALSO, THE HORN BECAME INOPERABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FIVE TIMES, BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 13,600.
MY 2011 JEEP PATRIOT CAME WITH FIRESTONE AFFINITY TIRES, AND AFTER ONLY TWO YEARS AND FOURTEEN THOUSAND MILES THE TIRES HAVE DEVELOPED CRACKS ALL ALONG THE SEAM WHERE THE TREAD ATTACHES TO THE TIRE CASING. IT LOOKS AS THOUGH THE TREAD IS STARTING TO PULL AWAY FROM THE TIRE.
Complaints are voluntarily submitted to the NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation and are not verified by NHTSA; they represent owner-reported problems, not proven defects. Counts can be useful as a relative quality signal across comparable tires or vehicles.
