Type any tire size below; we'll compute its overall-diameter delta against the OEM 235/60R18 and verdict using the ETRTO ±3% rule.
Common upgrade paths
- Plus-1: 215/60R19; one rim size up, 0.19% OD change. Sharper steering, mild ride penalty, modest cost premium.
- Plus-2: 255/45R20; two rim sizes up, -0.23% OD change. Noticeable ride penalty, higher pothole risk, meaningful tire-cost premium.
Use the plus-size calculator to evaluate any rim step against the OEM size.
How to choose tires for the 2005 cadillac SRX
The 2005 Cadillac SRX ships from the factory on 235/60R18 tires mounted on R18 wheels. 6 approved fitments are documented for this model year, allowing some flexibility between performance, comfort, and winter compounds. The Compatible alternative sizes table above lists every safe substitution within the ETRTO ±3% overall-diameter tolerance.
Tire choice on the Cadillac SRX comes down to three trade-offs that matter more than brand loyalty: load index (must equal or exceed the OEM number), speed rating (must match or exceed the placard), and UTQG treadwear (higher means longer life, lower usually means stickier rubber). Owners replacing factory tires with the same compound class, for example all-season for all-season, generally see no change in ride characteristics or fuel economy. Switching categories (performance summer to all-season touring, for example) is where the trade-offs show up at the contact patch.
For 2005 Cadillac SRX owners considering a plus-size upgrade, the safer option is a Plus-1 step (one rim size up with a 10-point aspect drop and ~10 mm of additional section width). Plus-2 is technically viable on this chassis if the alternative-sizes table lists a Plus-2 candidate within tolerance, but expect a meaningful ride-harshness penalty and a tire-cost premium of 30–60% per tire relative to the OEM fitment. For winter use the recommended pattern is one width step down (e.g. from a 235 to a 225) with the aspect ratio bumped up to preserve overall diameter; narrower tires apply higher contact pressure per square inch on snow, which translates directly into shorter braking distances. The plus-size calculator evaluates any specific rim step against this OEM size.
Before purchasing, verify the tire size on the driver-door placard of your specific 2005 Cadillac SRX, since trim levels and option packages can shift the original fitment from what is documented here. The placard reading is the authoritative source per FMVSS 110, and dealers will reference the placard rather than aftermarket catalogs when validating warranty claims.

I HAD A BLOW OUT ON THE OHIO TURNPIKE. IT WAS AT THAT TIME I FIRST CAME TO KNOW CADILLAC NO LONGER PROVIDED SPARE TIRES AS STANDARD EQUIPMENT. A PUMP INCLUDED WHICH IS USELESS IN THE CASE OF A BLOW OUT exists. THE ISSUE IS HOW CAN CADILLAC BE ALLOWED TO SELL CARS WITH OUT SPARE TIRES. IT IS OBVIOUSLY A SAFETY DEVICE THAT SHOULD BE MANDATORY.
THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 CADILLAC SRX EQUIPPED WITH MICHELIN LATITUDE TOUR TIRES, SIZE: 235/55/R20. THE TIRES WERE MANUFACTURED ON APRIL 15, 2013. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TIRES HAD TREAD SEPARATION. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE TREAD WAS SEPARATING IN CHUNKS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THE TIRES INSPECTED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT ALL FOUR TIRES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE TIRES WERE NOT REPLACED. THE TIRES WERE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE TIRE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE TIRE AND VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 24,600. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
Vehicle is low mileage for its age (@ 30,000 miles). Four (4) Goodyear tires identified in this report were purchase 04/28/2024 and as of 07/01/2024 had been driven @ 600 miles. On 07/01/2024, the rear drivers' side tire deflated while the vehicle was operational. Vehicle was immediately pulled off the roadway into a parking lot. Tire was removed by roadside service and at that time was noticed a clear "rupture" (although the tire was deflated, the sidewall had a noticeable bulge covering approximately 20% of the tires sidewall surface).
DT: THE CONTACT STATED TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SENSORS WERE DEFECTIVE. THE MANUFACTURERS RECOMMENDED TIRE PRESSURE BE 32 PSI. HOWEVER, WITHIN 24 HOURS THE SENSORS SUGGESTED THE PRESSURE DROPPED IN ALL FOUR TIRES. THIS CAUSED THE WARNING LIGHTS TO ILLUMINATE, SIGNALING LOW TIRE PRESSURE. THE SENSORS PROVIDED A FALSE READING WHICH ALERTED THE CONTACT THAT AIR SHOULD BE ADDED TO THE TIRES. THIS CAUSED IMPROPER PRESSURE TO BE ADDED, RESULTING IN OVER INFLATION. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER THREE TIMES FOR THIS PROBLEM. EACH TIME THE DEALER CALIBRATED THE SENSORS. THIS PROCEDURE TEMPORARILY REMEDIES THE PROBLEM.
Complaints are voluntarily submitted to the NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation and are not verified by NHTSA; they represent owner-reported problems, not proven defects. Counts can be useful as a relative quality signal across comparable tires or vehicles.
