How we ranked these tires for the volvo V70
We started with the latest model-year's OEM tire size; 205/60R16; and filtered our catalog of 22,000+ tires to those offered in that exact size. From there, four parallel rankings:
- Best all-season ranks on a weighted score: tire type matches passenger car segment, season is "all-season", premium brand bonus (Michelin / Continental / Bridgestone / Pirelli / Goodyear / Nokian).
- Best budget ranks on cost-per-warranty-mile; the lower the better. Premium brands get no bonus here.
- Best quiet ranks on the EU tire-label dB rating; lower is quieter.
- Best winter filters to tires marked 3PMSF severe-snow rated or all-weather class, with a small premium-brand bonus because winter-compound R&D is capital-intensive.
For sedans and compacts, the all-season touring tire below is the best default; long warranty, low cabin noise, reasonable cost per mile. Switch to the quiet pick if highway droning is a deal-breaker; switch to the winter pick if you see significant snow each year. Use the side-by-side comparison above to weigh the trade-offs against your specific driving; highway-heavy, winter-state, performance-oriented, or budget-constrained.

I NOTICED A VIBRATION BETWEEN 25-40 MPH. DEALER FOUND BELT SEPARATION AND CRACKING. THERE ARE 5 OR 6 OTHER INCIDENTS OF THIS ON 1998 AND 1999 VOLVO CARS AT THIS DEALERSHIP. THIS IS A FACTORY DEFECT AND SAFETY ISSUE AND I AM UNHAPPY THAT CONTINENTAL MADE ME PAY A PRO-RATA AMOUNT OF $25 FOR EACH TIRE THEY REPLACED.
SIDEWALL OF THE TIRE FAILED. THERE WAS NO UNUSUAL ROAD CONDITION TO INITIATE FAILURE. MANUFACTURER CLAIMS TIRE FAILURE RESULTED FROM IMPACT WHICH IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY.*AK (TIRESIZE: 205/55/R16)
ON 7/5/04 I DISCOVERED THAT THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE ON MY VOLVO V70 HAD LARGE BULGES ON THE SIDE WALL. THE TIRE IS A PIRELLI P6 235/45 R17 ALL SEASON. THIS IS AN OEM TIRE. THE CAR HAS 9,300 MILES ON IT. I DOVE THE CAR IMMEDIATELY TO THE DEALER WHERE IT SITS CURRENTLY. THIS IS THE SECOND INSTANCE OF THIS HAPPENING. THE FIRST INSTANCE OCCURRED WITH A RIGHT FRONT TIRE AT 7,400 MILES.
ON 3/1/04 I DISCOVERED THAT THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE ON MY VOLVO V70 HAD LARGE BULGES ON THE SIDE WALL. THE TIRE IS A PIRELLI P6 235/45 R17 ALL SEASON. THIS IS AN OEM TIRE. THE CAR HAS 7,400 MILES ON IT. I DOVE THE CAR IMMEDIATELY TO THE DEALER. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT THE DAMAGE MUST HAVE BEEN CAUSE BY HITTING SOMETHING AND IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I HAVE NOT HIT ANYTHING WITH THE TIRE AND THERE WAS NO THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE OF ANYKIND OF ANY IMPACT. THE DEALER REPLACED THE TIRE ON 3/2/04 AT MY EXPENSE. I AM FILING THIS NOW BECAUSE ON 7/5/04 I HAD A SECOND SIMILAR EVENT. SEE ODI NUMBER 10080391. HAVING RESEARCHED THE ODI COMPLIANT LOG I HAVE DISCOVERED THAT MANY PEOPLE HAVE REPORTED THIS SAME PROBLEM INCLUDING BLOWOUTS.
