How we ranked these tires for the oldsmobile silhouette

We started with the latest model-year's OEM tire size; 225/60R16; and filtered our catalog of 22,000+ tires to those offered in that exact size. From there, four parallel rankings:

For sedans and compacts, the all-season touring tire below is the best default; long warranty, low cabin noise, reasonable cost per mile. Switch to the quiet pick if highway droning is a deal-breaker; switch to the winter pick if you see significant snow each year. Use the side-by-side comparison above to weigh the trade-offs against your specific driving; highway-heavy, winter-state, performance-oriented, or budget-constrained.

15 INCH TIRES, ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT WITH OLDSMOBILE SILHOUTTE 1991. CONSUMER WAS DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 80 MPH WHEN FRONT PASSENGER TIRE BLEW OUT,TREAD COMPLETELY SHREDDED,AND CAUSED DAMAGE TO SIDE OF VEHICLE. NEXT DAY FRONT DRIVER'S TIRE EXPERIENCED THE SAME DEFECT. IT ALSO CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE SIDE OF VEHICLE. CONSUMER HAD ALL FOUR TIRES REPLACED WITH FIRESTONE ST70C.

NHTSA complaint 230723 · 1991 vehicle

TREAD PEELED FROM TIRE ON I-95 NORTH OF JACKSONVILLE, FL. SECOND TIRE DEVELOPED LARGE BUBBLE WITHIN TWO WEEKS, AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. FRONT TWO TIRES WERE THEN REPLACED AS A SAFETY PRECAUTION. TIRE EXPENSE: $298. ESTIMATE OF REPAIR TO VAN FROM TIRE TREAD $1464. LUCKILY, NO INJURIES RESULTED. THREE PERSONS IN CAR AT TIME, INCLUDING 11 YEAR OLD GIRL.

NHTSA complaint 235219 · 1995 vehicle

TREAD SEPARATION ON LEFT FRONT TIRE. AT HIGH SPEED THE TIRE FELT LIKE A BALANCE WEIGHT HAD BEEN LOST AND THUMPED. AT LOWER SPEEDS (BELOW 30MPH) THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD "ROCK" LIKE THE FRONT END OR STEERING MECHANISM WAS LOOSE AND WOULD PULL THE VEHICLE TO THE RIGHT. CONTINUED HIGH SPEED DRIVING COULD HAVE CAUSED LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL.

NHTSA complaint 242289 · 1993 vehicle

WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 65 N NEAR SEYMOUR INDIANA OUR TIRE DISSENTIGRATED. WE PULLED OVER IMMEDIATELY AND FOUND 2 SIDES ON THE TIRE WITH THE MIDDLE TREAD MISSING. WE REPLACED ALL FOUR TIRES WITHIN 1 DAY BECAUSE OF SAFETY CONCERNS. THE RIM WAS NOT DAMAGED. THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED WITH 2 ADULTS AND 5 CHILDREN IN THE VAN. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A MAJOR TRAGEDY. I HAVE A PICTURE OF THE DAMAGED TIRE THAT I CAN EMAIL IF NECESSARY. I WOULD LIKE TO BE RE-IMBURSED FOR THE EXPENSE OF THE NEW TIRES. THANKS!

FAQ

What's the best all-season tire for the Oldsmobile Silhouette?
The all-season touring slate above ranks the top options for the 225/60R16 OEM size. The leader is selected by matching oldsmobile-segment fitment, all-season compound class, and premium-brand quality bonus. For most Oldsmobile Silhouette owners, the all-season touring pick is the best one-tire compromise; long warranty, low noise, reasonable cost per mile.
Should I get a cheaper tire for my Oldsmobile Silhouette?
The budget slate above ranks tires by cost-per-warranty-mile, ignoring brand premium. The budget pick is genuinely competitive on durability metrics; the trade-off is shorter warranty and slightly higher cabin noise, not actual safety risk. If you drive less than 15,000 miles a year, the budget pick will outlast your replacement window regardless.
Does the Oldsmobile Silhouette need winter tires?
If you see more than 5 snow days a year or drive at sustained temperatures below 7 °C, yes; winter compounds stay pliable in cold where all-season rubber hardens, which translates directly to shorter braking distances. The winter pick above is 3PMSF severe-snow rated and works for the 225/60R16 OEM fitment. Storage cost is real (4 extra tires somewhere), but the safety margin in winter conditions is substantial.
Can I run a different tire size on my Oldsmobile Silhouette?
Plus-size and minus-size alternatives within ±3% overall diameter are typically safe per the ETRTO standard. See the 225/60R16 upsize options for the full categorised alternatives table with verdicts.
Where can I buy these tires?
Each tire links to its detail page with live pricing from our online retailer partners. Out-the-door cost (including mount, balance, TPMS service, and disposal) varies by state; use the install cost calculator for a realistic estimate.
