How we ranked these tires for the ford edge
We started with the latest model-year's OEM tire size; 245/60R18; and filtered our catalog of 22,000+ tires to those offered in that exact size. From there, four parallel rankings:
- Best all-season ranks on a weighted score: tire type matches SUV segment, season is "all-season", premium brand bonus (Michelin / Continental / Bridgestone / Pirelli / Goodyear / Nokian).
- Best budget ranks on cost-per-warranty-mile; the lower the better. Premium brands get no bonus here.
- Best quiet ranks on the EU tire-label dB rating; lower is quieter.
- Best winter filters to tires marked 3PMSF severe-snow rated or all-weather class, with a small premium-brand bonus because winter-compound R&D is capital-intensive.
SUV-specific tire models (CrossClimate, CrossContact, Defender LTX) have reinforced sidewalls designed for the chassis mass and often a wider tread for better wet traction at higher curb weight. Use the side-by-side comparison above to weigh the trade-offs against your specific driving; highway-heavy, winter-state, performance-oriented, or budget-constrained.

POTENTIAL EARLY TIRE FAILURE. THIS TIRE LINE (FEDERAL COURAGIA XUV) IS FIRST MANUFACTURED IN SEPTEMBER 2015, AND ALL FOUR OF MINE HAVE DISPLAYED NOTICEABLE RUBBER CRACKING IN THE TIRE BODY AREA (DOWN INSIDE THE TREAD GROOVES). FORD DEALER AND TIRE DEALER HAVE BOTH STATED THIS IS VERY PREMATURE CONDITION AND ADVISED TIRE REPLACEMENT.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the TPMS randomly became inoperable. The contact continued to receive random false notifications and alerts. The contact stopped and checked the tires on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted by mail, and opened a case, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 52,839.
TOOK MY CAR IN TO HAVE MY TIRES ROTATED AND NOTICED THAT THE STEM ON THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE WAS TORN, NEARLY ERODING OFF. HAD TO PURCHASE A NEW TIRE TO AVOID A POSSIBLE FUTURE ACCIDENT. I SAW ON THE NEWS THAT THIS SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH MOST 2007 FORDS, SO I'M CONTRIBUTING MY INCIDENT.
Complaints are voluntarily submitted to the NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation and are not verified by NHTSA; they represent owner-reported problems, not proven defects. Counts can be useful as a relative quality signal across comparable tires or vehicles.
