How we ranked these tires for the chevrolet K1500
We started with the latest model-year's OEM tire size; 225/75R16; and filtered our catalog of 22,000+ tires to those offered in that exact size. From there, four parallel rankings:
- Best all-season ranks on a weighted score: tire type matches passenger car segment, season is "all-season", premium brand bonus (Michelin / Continental / Bridgestone / Pirelli / Goodyear / Nokian).
- Best budget ranks on cost-per-warranty-mile; the lower the better. Premium brands get no bonus here.
- Best quiet ranks on the EU tire-label dB rating; lower is quieter.
- Best winter filters to tires marked 3PMSF severe-snow rated or all-weather class, with a small premium-brand bonus because winter-compound R&D is capital-intensive.
For sedans and compacts, the all-season touring tire below is the best default; long warranty, low cabin noise, reasonable cost per mile. Switch to the quiet pick if highway droning is a deal-breaker; switch to the winter pick if you see significant snow each year. Use the side-by-side comparison above to weigh the trade-offs against your specific driving; highway-heavy, winter-state, performance-oriented, or budget-constrained.

WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 74 MPH RIGHT REAR TIRE (FIRESTONE DUALER 256/16) EXPERIENCED TREAD SEPARATION, CAUSING CONSUMER TO LOSE CONTROL OF VEHICLE AND CRASH INTO GUARDRAIL HEAD ON, THE PASSENGER WAS THROWN INTO DRIVERS SIDE SUSTAINING INJURIE., THIS WAS THE THIRD TIRE THAT HAD PROBLEMS WITH. TIRE WAS TURNED OVER TO FIRESTONE FOR INSPECTION CONTACT PERSON IS JAMES E CRAHAN P.O. BOX 18006, KANSAS CITY, MO 64133 PH-816-358-6111. *AK *MJS
WHEN WE BOUGHT THIS TRUCK IN 1988, THE ORIGINAL TIRES WERE FIRESTONES. AT ABOUT 44,000 MILES, I HAD TO REPLACE THEM DUE TO THE PEELING THAT WAS TAKING PLACE. IT HAD PEELED ENOUGH TO EXPOSE A LAYER OF WHITE UNDERNEATH. I STILL HAVE THE ORIGINAL FIRESTONE SPARE TIRE, WHICH I USED ONLY ONCE. I HAVE HEARD THAT THE PROBLEMS WENT BACK TO 1991, I CONTEST THAT, IT GOES BACK TO 1988. ENCLOSING, I HAD BOUGHT GOODYEARS TO REPLACE THEM, AND THEY LASTED ME 56,000 MILES. FORTUNATE, I DID NOT HAVE A ACCIDENT DUE TO TIRE FAILURE. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.
HAVE REPORTED ANOTHER INCIDENT (ODI #766215). WHILE DRIVING TO HAVE THAT TIRE REPLACED THE LEFT FRONT TIRE DEVELOPED SEVERE VIBRATION AND THUMPING SOUND. WHEN CHECKED THERE WAS A LARGE BUBBLE, APPROXIMATELY 4"X2" AT THE JUNCTION OF THE TREAD AND SIDEWALL. THE BUBBLE WAS IN THE TREAD SECTION. I HAD DRIVEN ABOUT 120 MILES AFTER THE OTHER TIRE HAD SEPARATED.
WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AT APPROX. 70MPH, THE TREAD ON THE REAR DRIVER SIDE TIRE SEPARATED RAPIDLY, RESULTING IN COMPLETE DESTRUCTION OF THE TIRE. AFTER INSTALLING THE SPARE AND RETURNING HOME, I INSPECTED THE OTHER THREE TIRES WHICH ALL HAVE DISTINCT CRACKS FORMING AT THE TREAD/SIDEWALL CORNERS. ON ONE TIRE, I CAN ACTUALLY SEE THE STEEL BELTS BETWEEN THE CRACKS.
Complaints are voluntarily submitted to the NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation and are not verified by NHTSA; they represent owner-reported problems, not proven defects. Counts can be useful as a relative quality signal across comparable tires or vehicles.
