Tread or belt separation appears in 38% of these reports; about 2.9× as often as across all tire complaints. Percentages are shares of the 13 reports filed against the Sailun S637 across every vehicle it was fitted to that include a written account; a single report can describe more than one problem, so they do not total 100%.

In owners' own words

Verbatim excerpts from complaints filed with NHTSA about Sailun S637. Reports are published by NHTSA as filed and are lightly cleaned here only to remove intake codes.

The VIN is from my tow vehicle, your system wouldn't take the VIN of my Fifth Wheel RV (4YDF37329J4700954) which the tire that failed is installed on. The tire in question was purchased in April of 2021 and had approximately 500 miles on it when the tread separated from the tire and became wrapped around the axle of the RV. The tire is a Sailun S637 ST235/80R16.

NHTSA complaint 1777419

Was starting out on my 940 mile road trip and 3 hrs into the trip both rear tires lost there tread. I have TPMS and neither tire was out of temp range nor psi range. This is on a dual axle 5th wheel RV. Took 5 hrs for roadside service to respond with acceptable tires. On day two with only 1.5 hrs left, the front two tires did the same thing. All 4 tires have date code of 2320. All 4 tires did lost thread in the same location. All four tires held pressure which allowed me to safely pull off the side of the road both times.

NHTSA complaint 1830289

ST235/80R16 Tread Separation. Tread was found to be absence following a stop for the day. Caused damage to the trailer lights and skirting. We were fortunate to stop before it blew apart as the steel belting was exposed. Tires were installed in DEC of 2020 (Williamsburg Walmart), approx 4000 miles on them at the time of the issue. No warning or other issues prior to the tire (flat etc). Replaced tire and repaired vehicle at my expense. Photo documentation uploaded

NHTSA complaint 1782742

On 6 of my Sailun tires the tread separated over the course of 2 years causing over $9,000 in damage to my RV. My insurance company, Progressive took one of the tires to attempt to get Sailun to pay with no results. I decided to contact you since a recall on the smaller sailun brand tire with the same problem exists.

NHTSA complaint 1802715

Complaints are voluntarily submitted to the NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation and are not verified by NHTSA; they represent owner-reported problems, not proven defects. Counts can be useful as a relative quality signal across comparable tires or vehicles.

Sailun S637: what the numbers tell you

Manufacturer treadwear data for the S637 is not publicly listed. This is common for OEM-only or track-day tires that don't carry a US treadwear warranty. No mileage warranty is published for this tire, which is typical for performance summer and track-day rubber where the manufacturer doesn't make wear-life claims.

Cabin noise data for this tire is not published by the manufacturer. As a general tire built for the passenger segment, the S637 is positioned against direct rivals within the same category. Comparing it to a tire in a different category (e.g. summer vs all-season) makes the spec sheet misleading because the design targets are not the same.

The Sailun S637 has been part of Sailun's catalog since its introduction, and remains a current-production model.

For an apples-to-apples comparison against direct rivals, see the comparison pages linked from this tire's brand index.
