Michelin LTX M/S2: what the numbers tell you
The LTX M/S2's UTQG treadwear rating of 720 puts it in the long-wear class. Its compound is engineered for life over outright grip, which is appropriate for an everyday touring tire. No mileage warranty is published for this tire, which is typical for performance summer and track-day rubber where the manufacturer doesn't make wear-life claims.
Cabin noise data for this tire is not published by the manufacturer. As a general tire built for the passenger segment, the LTX M/S2 is positioned against direct rivals within the same category. Comparing it to a tire in a different category (e.g. summer vs all-season) makes the spec sheet misleading because the design targets are not the same.
The tires provide excellent all-weather performance with great traction and handling in various conditions. They offer a smooth, quiet, and comfortable ride. Customers report long tread life and durability, often exceeding 70,000 miles. The tires also demonstrate improved fuel efficiency compared to previous models. While a few customers experienced some issues with tread wear or road noise, the majority of reviews were highly positive, with many customers praising the tires as the best they have owned. These tires are great. When I replaced the previous tires with Defender LTX M/S roughly 10 years ago my pickup truck went from being a handful to drive, both in terms of noise and stability, to a truck that I had complete confidence in and could drive it without concern for breaking or maneuverability. The truck felt like a completely different vehicle. Unfortunately, I can't get replacements in my size. I have these tires put on all my new Ford F-150's when I trade vehicles. They are the best all-around LT tires I've ever used. Just replaced the last set at 76000 miles, only because we were leaving on a 2200-mile trip through mountains, for peace of mind. They had more miles left in them. Excellent grip on slippery highways has been my experience. I use the 10ply tires since we tow and sometimes travel gravel roads also.
