NHTSA-reported issues for goodyear assurance

What owners described
Sidewall failure appears in 40% of these reports; about 2.7× as often as across all tire complaints. Percentages are shares of the 50 reports filed against the Goodyear Assurance across every vehicle it was fitted to that include a written account; a single report can describe more than one problem, so they do not total 100%.

THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 CHEVROLET MALIBU EQUIPPED WITH GOODYEAR TIRES ASSURANCE TIRES, SIZE: P225/55R17. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THERE WAS A LOUD BANG SOUND COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE DRIVER OBSERVED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIRE BLEW OUT WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE TIRE WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE VEHICLE AND TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 6,000.
The contact owns a Goodyear Tire. Tire Line: Assurance Max Life, Tire Size: 225/45/VR18. The contact stated that he noticed the front driver's side tire had a big bubble on the sidewall. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The local dealer was not contacted. The tire was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The tire mileage was 6,000. The VIN was not available.
We had four Goodyear Assurance 215/70R/15 tires installed on our 2008 Tacoma pick-up by Sam's Club in 2019. While driving at highway speed (~55 mph), the driver's rear tire had a blowout of the outside sidewall. There were no objects or potholes run over. After removing the tire and inspecting the tread, there are no signs of any foreign objects in the tread. The tire pressure checks for all the tires were completed within the previous month, and they were balanced and rotated by Sam's Club within the previous three months. Fortunately, this did not occur on a front tire since we were on a heavily traveled two-lane road and we could have lost control with a catastrophic failure like this one. There were approximately 15k miles of use on all the tires.
Complaints are voluntarily submitted to the NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation and are not verified by NHTSA; they represent owner-reported problems, not proven defects. Counts can be useful as a relative quality signal across comparable tires or vehicles.

Goodyear assurance: what the numbers tell you
Manufacturer treadwear data for the Assurance is not publicly listed. This is common for OEM-only or track-day tires that don't carry a US treadwear warranty. No mileage warranty is published for this tire, which is typical for performance summer and track-day rubber where the manufacturer doesn't make wear-life claims.
Cabin noise data for this tire is not published by the manufacturer. As a general tire built for the passenger segment, the Assurance is positioned against direct rivals within the same category. Comparing it to a tire in a different category (e.g. summer vs all-season) makes the spec sheet misleading because the design targets are not the same.
The Goodyear Assurance has been part of Goodyear's catalog since its introduction, and remains a current-production model.
For an apples-to-apples comparison against direct rivals, see the comparison pages linked from this tire's brand index.
