In owners' own words

Verbatim excerpts from complaints filed with NHTSA about Delta. Reports are published by NHTSA as filed and are lightly cleaned here only to remove intake codes.

I WAS DRIVING MY 1995 RV WITH A FORD E350 CHASSIS ON THE FREEWAY IN LAS VEGAS APPROXIMATELY FIVE MILES FROM HOME WHEN I NOTICED A SLIGHT VIBRATION. I TRAVELED ANOTHER FIVE MILES AND THE REAR LEFT OUTSIDE TIRE LOST IT'S TREAD AND BLEW OUT RESULTING IN DAMAGE TO THE WHEEL WELL AND DUMP HOSE STORAGE. THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE WAS 110 DEGREES. MY SPEED WAS APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH. THE TIRES ON THE VEHICLE WERE DELTA ESSENTIAL LT225/75 R16 AND WERE PURCHASED IN 2013. THEY HAVE BEEN DRIVEN 10,000 MILES AND VISUALLY APPEAR TO BE IN GOOD CONDITION. THE AIR PRESSURE IS CHECKED REGULARLY. THE MATED TIRE WAS CHECKED AND THE PRESSURE WAS AT THE RECOMMENDED 60 PSI.

THE SIZE IS LT235/75/16 THE MAKE IS DELTA ESSENTIAL.PREMATURE TIRE FAILURE, UNABLE TO HANDLE LOAD. PURCH. 6 TIRES AT THE SAME TIME ALL SIMULAR DATE OF PRODUCTION 2012. 3 OF SIX FAILED THIS SUMMER WITHIN 1,700 MILES OF EACHOTHER. ALL FAILURES WERE ON REAR PART OF A DUAL WHEEL SET. PROPERLY INFLATED COLD TO MAX AIR PRESSURE. ALL TIRES HAD 75% OR MORE TREAD LIFE. FAILURE INDICATED BY BAD VIBRATION THEN CROWNING OF TREAD AND EXCESSIVE HEAT FROM TIRE. ALL 3 STILL HAD AIR IN THEM. OPON REMOVAL INNER LAYER SEPERATING FROM TREAD. I STILL HAVE ONE DEFET AND HAVE REMOVED THE OTHER (GOOD) 3 TIRES FROM HHE VEHICLE. I DID WEIGH VEHICLE AND IT IS NOT OVER WEIGHT.AT 2670LBS THE 4 SHOULD CARRY 10680 THAT ARE ON THE REAR. I BELIVE MANY MORE HAVE ALREADY FAILED AND MORE COULD FAIL. THIS IS A BAD PRODUCT.

NHTSA complaint 1415330

BOTH FRONT TIRES MERELY DEVELOPED TREAD BULGES, LESS THAN 15K MILES, NEVER HAD A FLAT, BEEN OVERLOADED,OVERINFLATED, ECT.. THEY JUST BECAME VERY POOR DRIVING AND VIBRATED BADLY TO FIND THEY BOTH HAVE BULGES IN THE TREAD. THEY SEEMED FINE ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO AND WHEN I WENT TO DRIVE IT A COUPLE DAYS AGO THE PROBLEM BECAME APPARENT.

Delta chaparral C/T commercial hwy: what the numbers tell you

Manufacturer treadwear data for the Chaparral C/T Commercial Hwy is not publicly listed. This is common for OEM-only or track-day tires that don't carry a US treadwear warranty. No mileage warranty is published for this tire, which is typical for performance summer and track-day rubber where the manufacturer doesn't make wear-life claims.

Cabin noise data for this tire is not published by the manufacturer. As a general tire built for the passenger segment, the Chaparral C/T Commercial Hwy is positioned against direct rivals within the same category. Comparing it to a tire in a different category (e.g. summer vs all-season) makes the spec sheet misleading because the design targets are not the same.

The Delta Chaparral C/T Commercial Hwy has been part of Delta's catalog since its introduction, and remains a current-production model.

For an apples-to-apples comparison against direct rivals, see the comparison pages linked from this tire's brand index.
