THE CONTACT'S WIFE OWNS A 2020 GMC YUKON EQUIPPED WITH CONTINENTAL TIRES, TIRE LINE: CROSSCONTACT LX SPORT, TIRE SIZE 245/50/R20. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT TIRE EXPERIENCED A BLOWOUT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DAVID BALES BUICK GMC (1327 JACKSBORO PIKE, LAFOLLETTE, TN 37766, 423) 562-8431) WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS STILL AWAITING A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 14,900.
Owner of a 2018 Tesla Model X 100D with 35,499 miles had an accident on June 3rd 2021 due to a full thread loss of the passenger front tire. She was driving to work at the speed limit, early in the morning. Without any alert of pressure loss, the thread separated from the tire, causing the whole belt to hit the interior part of the front fender, causing a loss of control of the vehicle until the complete stop. Luckly, no other cars were involved in the accident. Driver was unable to move the car. Later, the car was towed to the Tesla center in Fresno, CA. Four days later, the car was moved to a body shop. The accident caused substantial damage to the car, well above the cost of a new tire. We have contacted Continental customer service and Tesla. Apparently, the tire is being recalled, but neither Tesla or Continental alerted us.
A vehicle service center noticed that the rubber on the surface of the tire tread appeared to be failing /deteriorating on all four tires in a way that was not normal. Cracks at least.25 inches deep are forming and some small chunks are separating. Given that the same condition exists on all four tires, this appears to be a manufacturing defect. The dealership examined the tires and agreed that the condition was not normal but not currently part of the Continental tire recall. We highly recommend that this line of tires be included in the recall to protect the safety of drivers and passengers.
Tire sidewall separating causing an immediate flat tire while traveling in the fast lane at 70mph on the freeway. This put me and other vehicles at risk as it was with no warning, just immediately a flat tire. Dealer was called and seems uninterested in seeing the tire as it was not apart of the most recent recall regarding this same issue with Continental tires. Continental tire manufacturer also seems uninterested in helping as the tire was replaced by a different brand as that was the only option on Labor Day so I could return home due to being 400 miles from home at the time of the incident.
Complaints are voluntarily submitted to the NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation and are not verified by NHTSA; they represent owner-reported problems, not proven defects. Counts can be useful as a relative quality signal across comparable tires or vehicles.

Continental CrossContact LX sport: what the numbers tell you
At UTQG 480, the CrossContact LX Sport sits in the mid-life performance tier. Tread life will typically run 25,000-40,000 miles on most vehicles before the wear bars are reached. No mileage warranty is published for this tire, which is typical for performance summer and track-day rubber where the manufacturer doesn't make wear-life claims.
Cabin noise data for this tire is not published by the manufacturer. As a general tire built for the passenger segment, the CrossContact LX Sport is positioned against direct rivals within the same category. Comparing it to a tire in a different category (e.g. summer vs all-season) makes the spec sheet misleading because the design targets are not the same.
