Tire recall notices matched to this vehicle
Each notice below is an NHTSA recall on a tire that matches one of this vehicle's factory fitment sizes (match confidence ≥ 0.5). A recall on a tire model does not mean every unit is defective; check the DOT date code on your sidewall against the campaign's affected production window.
Summary. Hankook Tire America Corp. (Hankook) is recalling certain Kinergy GT tires, size 235/60R18H H436. The tires contain a tire identification number (TIN) that is missing the 4-digit week and year code mark. As such, these tires fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 574, "Tire Identification & Recordkeeping."
Consequence. Missing TIN information can make it difficult for tire owners to identify a tire involved in a recall. Owners may continue to drive on recalled tires, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy. Dealers will replace the tires, free of charge. The affected vehicle manufacturer will mail letters to owners. Owners may contact Hankook customer service at 1-800-426-5665.

Consequence. Tread separation can result in tire failure and a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy. Dealers and authorized independent service centers will replace the affected tires, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 15, 2021. Owners may contact Hankook customer service at 1-800-426-5665.

NHTSA complaint 288865 · 1995 vehicle
SPARE TIRE MOUNT SWINGS AWAY FROM TAILGATE AND WOULD DROP DOWN. WHENEVER A BUMP OR CRACK IS HIT, MOUNT WOULD COME OPEN UNEXPECTEDLY. SPARE TIRE ON TAILGATE WOULD BE IN TRAFFIC ONCE IT SWINGS OUTWARD. SPARE TIRE WAS BOLTED ON TAILGATE BY A LATCH. HAVE BEEN IN TOUCH WITH DEALERSHIP AND MANUFACTURER.
NHTSA complaint 299336 · 1991 vehicle
FRONT TIRES DEVELOPED SERIOUS WEAR PATTERNS (CUPPING). ORIGINAL FACTORY WHEEL BALANCING PLACED 3 OUNCES OF WEIGHT ON FRONT RIGHT AND 2.75 OUNCES ON FRONT LEFT WHILE THE REAR TIRES ONLY REQUIRED.5 OUNCES OF WEIGHT. THE TIRES HAVE BEEN BALANCED THREE TIMES BY DIFFERENT PLACES AND ACCORDING TO THE TIRES EXPERTS, THE TIRES "DON'T SPIN WELL". ONE UNIROYAL DEALER SUGGESTED I CONTACT THE SELLING DEALER OF THE CAR AND HAVE HIM REPLACE THE TIRES. THIS IS NOT A GMC ISSUE BUT A UNIROYAL ISSUE. AFTER ROTATING THE DEFECTIVE FRONT TIRES TO THE REAR, THE REAR TIRES NOW HUM AND THE RIDE IS TERRIBLE. THESE TIRES WERE POORLY MANUFACTURED AND EVEN USING HEAVY WEIGHTS, CANNOT BE BALANCED PROPERLY. GIVEN THE FACT THAT MY GMC JIMMY HAS A POOR ROLLOVER RATING, I'M AFRAID THESE REAR TIRES WILL CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT IF NOT REPLACED.
NHTSA complaint 301195 · 2001 vehicle
Complaints are voluntarily submitted to the NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation and are not verified by NHTSA; they represent owner-reported problems, not proven defects. Counts can be useful as a relative quality signal across comparable tires or vehicles.
What to do if a tire on your vehicle is recalled
Find your tire's DOT code. The DOT date code is on the tire sidewall; the last four digits are the week and year of manufacture (e.g. 2419 = week 24 of 2019). Recalls apply to specific production windows, so this tells you whether your tire is in scope.
Check the campaign. Enter the NHTSA campaign number (linked in each notice above) at the free NHTSA recall lookup, or search by your tire brand and model.
Claim the free remedy. Under U.S. law, a recalled tire is remedied at no cost by the manufacturer; typically free replacement. Contact the tire maker or the dealer that sold the tire; you do not pay for a recall remedy.
Register your tires. Registering with the manufacturer (tire shops can do this at install) means you are notified directly of future recalls instead of finding out by chance.
Yes; there are 4 tire-related recalls on record matched to the GMC Jimmy's factory tire fitment. Each notice above links to its NHTSA campaign. Recalls apply to specific production windows, so check the DOT date code on your sidewall.
How do I check if my tire is recalled?
Read the DOT date code on the sidewall (the last four digits are the week and year of manufacture), then enter the NHTSA campaign number or your tire brand and model at the free NHTSA recall lookup. Recalls cover specific production windows, so the date code determines whether your tire is affected.
What do I do if my tire is recalled?
A recalled tire is remedied at no cost; usually free replacement by the manufacturer. Contact the tire maker or the dealer that sold it. You never pay for a recall remedy under U.S. law.
Are tire complaints the same as a recall?
No. This vehicle has 48 tire-related owner complaints filed with NHTSA, but complaints are voluntary reports of problems; not verified defects and not a recall. A recall is an official campaign requiring a free remedy. Complaint volume is a useful relative quality signal, not proof of a defect.
