Component
TIRES
Manufacturer
Pirelli Tire, LLC
Affected models
{"subject":"Tire Tread May Separate","potentially_affected":"3093"}
Reported
2024-10-08

Summary. Pirelli Tire, LLC. (Pirelli) is recalling certain Scorpion Trail II, Metzeler Tourance Next, and Next II tires sold as replacements and for the Metzeler Tourance Next 150/70R18 M/C 70V tire, also installed as original equipment on certain Triumph motorcycles. Please refer to the recall report for specific sizes. Irregular tire wear may break the belt reinforcement, causing pieces of the tread to separate.

Consequence. Tread separation can cause vehicle instability, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Dealers will replace the tires, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 20, 2024. Owners may contact Pirelli Customer Service at 1-800-747-3554.

Campaign 16T006000

Component
TIRES
Manufacturer
Pirelli Tire, LLC
Affected models
{"subject":"Missing the Date Code on the Tire/FMVSS 139","potentially_affected":"79"}
Reported
2016-04-27

Summary. Pirelli Tire LLC (Pirelli) is recalling certain P Zero Trofeo tires sizes, 225/50ZR15 91Y, manufactured from April 1, 2015, through April 7, 2015, and 245/45ZR16 94Y manufactured from March 21, 2015, through March 26, 2015. The affected tires may not be marked with a date code. As such, these tires fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 139, "New Pneumatic Radial Tires for Light Vehicles."

Consequence. A missing date code could render the tire difficult to identify in the event of a safety-related issue, possibly causing them not to be removed from service. This will increase the risk of crash.

Remedy. Pirelli will notify owners, and dealers will replace the tires missing the date code, free of charge. The recall began on June 14, 2016. Owners may contact Pirelli customer service at 1-800-747-3554.

NHTSA complaint 269072 · 1994 vehicle

ON 6/22/01 I BOUGHT 4 NEW MICHELIN 245-75R16 TRUCK TIRES FOR MY PICKUP FOR $524.62. THE VEHICLE IS USED FOR PLEASURE AND IS ALWAYS GARAGED. THE TIRES CURRENTLY HAVE ONLY 16,251 MILES ON THEM. DURING MY ANNUAL VEHICLE INSPECTION, THE INSPECTOR NOTICED THAT ALL FOUR TIRES HAD CRACKING SIDEWALLS (DRY-ROT). I RETURNED TO THE PLACE OF TIRE PURCHASE AND THE MANAGER SAID THAT THE TIRES WERE NOT SAFE, COULD POSSIBLY BLOW-OUT, AND SHOULD BE REPLACED. THE TIRES LOOK BRAND-NEW OTHER THAN THE CRACKED SIDEWALLS. I CONTACTED MICHELIN AND THEY REFUSED ANY ACTION. I BELIEVE THAT TIRES SHOULD NOT FAIL DUE TO DRY-ROT WITH ONLY 16,251 MILES.

Complaints are voluntarily submitted to the NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation and are not verified by NHTSA; they represent owner-reported problems, not proven defects. Counts can be useful as a relative quality signal across comparable tires or vehicles.

What to do if a tire on your vehicle is recalled

  1. Find your tire's DOT code. The DOT date code is on the tire sidewall; the last four digits are the week and year of manufacture (e.g. 2419 = week 24 of 2019). Recalls apply to specific production windows, so this tells you whether your tire is in scope.
  2. Check the campaign. Enter the NHTSA campaign number (linked in each notice above) at the free NHTSA recall lookup, or search by your tire brand and model.
  3. Claim the free remedy. Under U.S. law, a recalled tire is remedied at no cost by the manufacturer; typically free replacement. Contact the tire maker or the dealer that sold the tire; you do not pay for a recall remedy.
  4. Register your tires. Registering with the manufacturer (tire shops can do this at install) means you are notified directly of future recalls instead of finding out by chance.

FAQ

Is there a tire recall for the Chevrolet C2500?
Yes; there are 6 tire-related recalls on record matched to the Chevrolet C2500's factory tire fitment. Each notice above links to its NHTSA campaign. Recalls apply to specific production windows, so check the DOT date code on your sidewall.
How do I check if my tire is recalled?
Read the DOT date code on the sidewall (the last four digits are the week and year of manufacture), then enter the NHTSA campaign number or your tire brand and model at the free NHTSA recall lookup. Recalls cover specific production windows, so the date code determines whether your tire is affected.
What do I do if my tire is recalled?
A recalled tire is remedied at no cost; usually free replacement by the manufacturer. Contact the tire maker or the dealer that sold it. You never pay for a recall remedy under U.S. law.
Are tire complaints the same as a recall?
No. This vehicle has 19 tire-related owner complaints filed with NHTSA, but complaints are voluntary reports of problems; not verified defects and not a recall. A recall is an official campaign requiring a free remedy. Complaint volume is a useful relative quality signal, not proof of a defect.
