The contact owns a 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan equipped with Continental Tires, Tire Line: ProContact TX, Tire Size: 235/50/R19, DOT Number: A384WD2D. The contact stated while driving 25 MPH, the TPMS warning illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer where the fault code was reset; however, the mechanic there was no failure found. The contact stated that on another occasion while driving 70 MPH, the rear passenger's side tire experienced a blowout. The contact stated that the TPMS warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not drivable. The vehicle was towed to a tire shop and had the rear passenger side replaced with a used tire. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer however, the mechanic found no failure with the vehicle. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 3,200. The VIN was not available.
Was driving on highway at 74 mph when the vehicles loss of air warning light came on. Five seconds later, I heard a pop which caused me to lose slight control of suv. Managed to pull safely over to the right side of highway where I managed to put on the spare tire. Luckily there was no other car to our right when the tire blew if not we would have hit another car and the incident could have been much worse. The tire was taken to two Volkswagen dealerships and they found no signs of nails or glass. It is unknown what caused the tire to rupture in such a way that it left multiple holes and cracks on the tire. The tire size is 255/45 R19 100H M+S
DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30-35 MPH ON DRY, FLAT PAVEMENT...NO POTHOLES OR ROAD HAZARDS. HEARD THUMP FROM REAR TIRE ON PASSENGER SIDE (THOUGHT SOMETHING FELL OVER IN TRUNK). DROVE APPROXIMATELY 1/2 MILE TO HOME AND WHEN EXITING VEHICLE HEARD HISSING NOISE FROM TIRE. THE TIRE HAS A SLIT IN THE TREAD/SIDEWALL OF APPROXIMATELY ONE-INCH IN LENGTH.
