THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA PRIUS EQUIPPED WITH BRIDGESTONE/FIRESTONE INSIGNIA SE200 ALL SEASON TIRES, SIZE: P185/65R 15 86T. THE CONTACT STATED SHE WAS DRIVING 30 MPH WHEN SHE HEARD A FLAPPING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR PASSENGER'S SIDE TIRE. THE CONTACT CHECKED THE TIRE AND DISCOVERED THAT THE TIRE WAS DEFLATED AND THE SIDE WALL WAS SPLIT. THE CONTACT TOOK THE TIRE TO A TIRE SHOP WHERE THEY PROVIDED HER WITH A REPLACEMENT TIRE. THE TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,500. THE VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 103,000.
I HAD A REAR TIRE BLOW OUT FOR NO APPARENT REASON. I DID NOT HIT ANYTHING. AND IT APPEARS TO BE A DEFECT. I DID HAVE TO DRIVE OFF ROAD TO SAFELY AVOID RISKY SITUATION. THE TOYOTA DEALER REFUSED TO TAKE UP WITH YOKOHAMA. I BOUGHT THE CAR ONLY IN FEBRUARY THIS YEAR AND BARLEY HAS ANY MILES ON IT. THE DEALERSHIP COMPLETELY UNHELPFUL. THIS IS CLEARLY A DEFECT AND SAFETY HAZARD!
WE HAVE HAD TWO CATASTROPHIC FAILURES OF CONTINENTAL PRO CONTACT TIRES (195/55-16) - ONE ON 12/11/2012 (RIGHT FRONT) AND ONE ON 04/24/2014 (LEFT FRONT). BOTH TIRES HAD BEEN IN SERVICE LESS THAN 5,000 MILES, WERE CORRECTLY INFLATED AND IN NO WAY MISUSED. NO ROAD OBSTACLE HAS HIT - THE TIRES SIMPLY DISINTEGRATED AFTER A FEW SECONDS OF TIRE PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT INDICATION. BOTH LOOK AS THOUGH A TIGER SAW HAD BEEN USED TO CUT AROUND THE CIRCUMFERENCE WHERE THE SIDEWALL TURNS TO MEET THE TREAD.
THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE DRIVER SIDE TIRE BECAME LOW ON AIR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO NOTICED THAT THE VALVE STEM SENSOR WAS DEFECTIVE AND HAD IT REPLACED. TWENTY MINUTES LATER THE TIRE SENSOR WARNING ILLUMINATED AND THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE WAS ALSO LOW AND THE STEM VALVE HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,979.
