Type any tire size below; we'll compute its overall-diameter delta against the OEM 205/60R16 and verdict using the ETRTO ±3% rule.
Common upgrade paths
- Plus-1: 185/60R17; one rim size up, 0.21% OD change. Sharper steering, mild ride penalty, modest cost premium.
- Plus-2: 195/50R18; two rim sizes up, -0.03% OD change. Noticeable ride penalty, higher pothole risk, meaningful tire-cost premium.
Use the plus-size calculator to evaluate any rim step against the OEM size.
How to choose tires for the 2007 suzuki SX4
The 2007 Suzuki SX4 ships from the factory on 205/60R16 tires mounted on R16 wheels. Only one approved fitment is documented for this model year, so replacement options should match the original size exactly unless a plus-size upgrade is being considered. The Compatible alternative sizes table above lists every safe substitution within the ETRTO ±3% overall-diameter tolerance.
Tire choice on the Suzuki SX4 comes down to three trade-offs that matter more than brand loyalty: load index (must equal or exceed the OEM number), speed rating (must match or exceed the placard), and UTQG treadwear (higher means longer life, lower usually means stickier rubber). Owners replacing factory tires with the same compound class, for example all-season for all-season, generally see no change in ride characteristics or fuel economy. Switching categories (performance summer to all-season touring, for example) is where the trade-offs show up at the contact patch.
For 2007 Suzuki SX4 owners considering a plus-size upgrade, the safer option is a Plus-1 step (one rim size up with a 10-point aspect drop and ~10 mm of additional section width). Plus-2 is technically viable on this chassis if the alternative-sizes table lists a Plus-2 candidate within tolerance, but expect a meaningful ride-harshness penalty and a tire-cost premium of 30–60% per tire relative to the OEM fitment. For winter use the recommended pattern is one width step down (e.g. from a 235 to a 225) with the aspect ratio bumped up to preserve overall diameter; narrower tires apply higher contact pressure per square inch on snow, which translates directly into shorter braking distances. The plus-size calculator evaluates any specific rim step against this OEM size.
Before purchasing, verify the tire size on the driver-door placard of your specific 2007 Suzuki SX4, since trim levels and option packages can shift the original fitment from what is documented here. The placard reading is the authoritative source per FMVSS 110, and dealers will reference the placard rather than aftermarket catalogs when validating warranty claims.

TWO TPMS SENSORS FAILED. THE FIRST SENSOR FAILED AT ABOUT 31000 MILES AND WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. THEN AT AROUND 50,000 MILES THE SECOND TPMS SENSOR FAILED AFTER WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. THE FAILURE IS MECHANICAL IN NATURE. THE THREADED VALVE STEM OF THE TPMS SENSOR DEVELOPS HAIRLINE CRACKS REFAULTING IN SLOW AIR LEAKS, WHICH DEVELOP INTO LARGER LEAKS WITHIN WEEKS, WHICH LEADS TO THE TPMS WARNING LIGHT GOING OFF IN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL, AND EVENTUALLY, IN THE NEED TO REPLACE TO TPMS SENSOR DUE TO THE AIR LEAK. FAILURE TO CHECK THE TIRE'S AIR PRESSURE WITHIN A DAY OR TWO CAN RESULT IN A FLAT TIRE. A GREAT DEAL OF EVIDENCE IN INTERNET FORUMS THIS IS A WIDESPREAD SUZUKI SX4 ISSUE, HINTING AT AN UNDERLYING FAULT WITH THE TPMS SENSORS.
I HAVE BRIDGESTONE TIRES ONLY ABOUT 29,500 MILES AND HAVE UNEVEN WEAR ON ALL MY TIRES I HAVE THEM ROTAED AT EVERY 3000 MILES THAT SHOULDN'T BE AND MY AIR BAG LIGHT ON THE PASSANGER SIDE IS OFF WHEN YOU SIT IN THE SEAT AND ON WHEN NO NONE SITS IN IT TVI TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES AND THEY JUST SAY THAT THE PERSON DOES NOT WEIGH ENOUGH FOR IT TO COME ON.
JUST BACK FROM 15 MILE TRIP TO WALMART, TURNED INTO LONG DRIVEWAY AND DROVE ABOUT 200 FEET WHEN HEARD NOISE LIKE WE WERE DRAGGING A LARGE WEED; STOPPED AND SAW THE TIRE HAD FAILED. LOOKED LIKE THE SIDEWALL OF THE TIRE CLOSE TO THE OUTSIDE OF THE RIM HAD SPLIT ALL AROUND THE TIRE. PURCHASED THESE 4 NEW TIRES ON 6/30/2012 FROM DISCOUNT TIRE COMPANY IN TYLER, TEXAS SO THIS TIRE ONLY HAD 3,557 MILES ON IT WHEN THIS HAPPENED. THE TIRE WAS A BFG GFORCE SPORT COMP2, SIZE 205/50ZR17 89W. WILL RETURN TO THE STORE FOR WARRANTY BUT MIGHT HAVE BEEN BAD IF IT HAD HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY AT 70MPH RATHER THAN THE DRIVEWAY AT 10 MPH. DID NOT FIND ANY RECALLS ON THIS TIRE IN THE RECALL SEARCH WEBSITE.
PURCHASED VEHICLE 11/24/06 NOT 1 WEEK OLD AND TPMS LIGHT ON 12/6/06 THEY RESET IT ON 12/11/06 LIGHT WENT ON AGAIN PER SERVICE TECH WHEEL SENSOR NOT COMMUNICATING THEREFORE REPLACED SENSOR, HOOKED UP TO SCANNER AND CLEARED CODES ROAD TESTED OK, 12/13/06 LIGHT WENT ON AGAIN PER SERVICE TECH THEY SPOKE WITH SUZUKI TECH LINE AND THE COMPUTER DID NOT REGISTER THE SENSORS, REGISTERED THE SENSORS CALIBRATED THEM AS WELL AND ROAD TESTED SO FAR SO GOOD. 2ND PROBLEM, ON 2/1/07 MY ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON THEY REPROGRAMMED ECM FOR THIS CODE AS PER TBS TS0111286R (NOT SURE WHAT THAT MEANT BUT THE LIGHT WENT OFF). ALSO WHILE ON YOUR SITE I SAW A COMPLAINT IN REFERENCE TO THE PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT GOING ON AND OFF. I TOO HAVE SEEN THIS LIGHT GO ON A COUPLE OF TIMES AND WILL CONTACT MY DEALER ONCE AGAIN TOMORROW.
Complaints are voluntarily submitted to the NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation and are not verified by NHTSA; they represent owner-reported problems, not proven defects. Counts can be useful as a relative quality signal across comparable tires or vehicles.
