Common upgrade paths
- Plus-1: 265/65R19; one rim size up, -0.13% OD change. Sharper steering, mild ride penalty, modest cost premium.
- Plus-2: 245/65R20; two rim sizes up, -0.21% OD change. Noticeable ride penalty, higher pothole risk, meaningful tire-cost premium.
Use the plus-size calculator to evaluate any rim step against the OEM size.
How to choose tires for the 2018 nissan armada
The 2018 Nissan Armada ships from the factory on 265/70R18 tires mounted on R18 wheels. 3 approved fitments are documented for this model year, allowing some flexibility between performance, comfort, and winter compounds. The Compatible alternative sizes table above lists every safe substitution within the ETRTO ±3% overall-diameter tolerance.
Tire choice on the Nissan Armada comes down to three trade-offs that matter more than brand loyalty: load index (must equal or exceed the OEM number), speed rating (must match or exceed the placard), and UTQG treadwear (higher means longer life, lower usually means stickier rubber). Owners replacing factory tires with the same compound class, for example all-season for all-season, generally see no change in ride characteristics or fuel economy. Switching categories (performance summer to all-season touring, for example) is where the trade-offs show up at the contact patch.
For 2018 Nissan Armada owners considering a plus-size upgrade, the safer option is a Plus-1 step (one rim size up with a 10-point aspect drop and ~10 mm of additional section width). Plus-2 is technically viable on this chassis if the alternative-sizes table lists a Plus-2 candidate within tolerance, but expect a meaningful ride-harshness penalty and a tire-cost premium of 30–60% per tire relative to the OEM fitment. For winter use the recommended pattern is one width step down (e.g. from a 235 to a 225) with the aspect ratio bumped up to preserve overall diameter; narrower tires apply higher contact pressure per square inch on snow, which translates directly into shorter braking distances. The plus-size calculator evaluates any specific rim step against this OEM size.
Before purchasing, verify the tire size on the driver-door placard of your specific 2018 Nissan Armada, since trim levels and option packages can shift the original fitment from what is documented here. The placard reading is the authoritative source per FMVSS 110, and dealers will reference the placard rather than aftermarket catalogs when validating warranty claims.

I PURCHASED 4 NEW TIRES FROM MY NISSAN DEALERSHIP IN SEPTEMBER 2014. WITHIN TWO WEEKS I HAD TWO FLAT TIRES FROM THE TIRE SENSOR LEAKS. ACCORDING TO TIRE TEC THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM SERVICING RUBBERS NEED TO BE REPLACED. ONCE A TIRE IS REMOVED AND REPLACED THE RUBBERS ARE USUALLY DAMAGED BY BENDING THE RUBBERS THUS CAUSING THE LEAKS. I SEE MANY COMPLAINTS ON THIS SITE ADVISING OF SENSOR WARNINGS AND PROBLEMS WITH KEEPING AIR IN TIRES. THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT IS UNIVERSAL TO ANYONE WHO HAS A VEHICLE WITH THE ELECTRONIC TIRE SENSORS AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. SO I HAVE HAD TWO OF MY SENSORS REPLACED. THE OTHER TWO OF MY TIRES CONSTANTLY LEAK AIR.
S10 APPROPRIATE HANDLING- LETTER TO THE SECRETARY FROM CONSTITUENT RE COMPLAINT REGARDING COOPER DISCOVER TIRES. *SMD THE CONSUMER IS REQUESTING REIMBURSEMENT IN THE AMOUNT OF $ 938.66. AT APPROXIMATELY 30,000 MILES, HE NOTICED SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF WEAR AND TEAR DEVELOPING, TO THE POINT WHERE THE RUBBER WAS BREAKING AND TEARING OFF. THE SIDEWALLS WERE ALSO DEVELOPING CRACKS AND A TRAJECTORY OF CREVICES WERE NOTICEABLY FORMING LEADING TO A POTENTIAL BLOWOUT. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO HYDROPLANE WHEN IT RAINED AND STEERING WHEEL WAS SUBJECT TO FREQUENT STRONG VIBRATIONS. THE CONSUMER QUICKLY PURCHASED ANOTHER BRAND OF TIRES.
THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN ARMADA. THE VEHICLE HAS CONTINENTAL CONTITRAC AW, SIZE P276/70R18 TIRES. ON JUNE 15, 2007, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC FOR A TIRE ROTATION. THE MECHANIC OBSERVED THAT ALL FOUR TIRES WERE WORN. THE MANUFACTURER AGREED THAT THE TIRES HAD PREMATURE WEAR AND TREAD SEPARATION AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO HAVE THE TIRES DIAGNOSED. CLAIM NUMBER 5071419263 WAS FILED WITH CONTINENTAL TIRES ON JULY 16, 2007. CONTINENTAL AGREED TO PAY 50% OF THE COST TO REPLACE THE TIRES, BUT THE CONTACT FEELS THIS IS INADEQUATE DUE TO RECALL NUMBER 02T012000 (TIRES:TREAD/BELT). HER VIN IS EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL. THE FAILURE LOCATION INCLUDES ALL FOUR TIRES ON THE VEHICLE. THE REPAIR LOCATION INCLUDED REPLACING ALL OF THE TIRES. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 23,600 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 22,000. UPDATED 08/16/07.
DT: WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AND HEARD A SOUND OF EXPLOSION AND IT WAS THE TIRE THAT EXPLODED ON THE FREEWAY. WAS DRIVING AT 70 MPH. THEN PULLED OVER TO CHANGE IT WITH THE SPARE. I SAW A HOLE ABOUT SIX INCHES ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE TIRE WALL NOT IN FRONT SIDE. THIS WAS THE RIGHT REAR TIRE. CALLED NISSAN DEALER. THEY SAID TO CONTACT THE TIRE MANUFACTURER. CONSUMER CALLED CONTINENTAL TIRES. AND THEY SAID THEY WERE NOT RESPONSIBLE BECAUSE IT HAPPENED ON THE FREEWAY. THE ONLY OPTION WAS THAT CONSUMER PURCHASED A NEW TIRES WHICH COST $300.00. WENT BACK TO THE DEALER. THE CAR WAS CHECKED, AND HAD NO MECHANICAL PROBLEMS. NISSAN DEALER SAID TO CALL BACK CONTINENTAL TIRES. CALLED THE AGAIN AND CONTINENTAL TIRES DID NOT WANTED TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. AS OF NOW CONSUMER COULD NOT DRIVE WITH THE SPARE TIRE, AND COMPLAINED AGAINST CONTINENTAL TIRES.
Complaints are voluntarily submitted to the NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation and are not verified by NHTSA; they represent owner-reported problems, not proven defects. Counts can be useful as a relative quality signal across comparable tires or vehicles.
