UNIROYAL LIBERATOR. THE TREAD SEPARATION OCCURRED ABOUT 11AM ON SATURDAY JULY 15, 2013 ON EAST BOUND I-10 JUST EAST OF OZONA, TEXAS. SPEED WAS ~79 MPH AS PART OF A BOY SCOUT CONVOY RETURNING FROM A HIGH ADVENTURE OUTING. VEHICLE WAS A 2005 K2500 SUBURBAN, LIGHTLY LOADED WITH MYSELF, 4 SCOUTS AND TWO BACK PACKS. WEATHER WAS OVERCAST AND 76 DEGREES F. NOT TOWING. TIRE PRESSURE WAS CHECKED AT 80 PSI BEFORE THE TRIP STARTED AND THE TIRE CASING WAS STILL INFLATED WHEN REMOVED TO PUT ON THE SPARE.
DRIVING RURAL ROAD @55 MPH. LEFT REAR TIRE TREAD SEPARATED. NO CONTACT WITH ROAD DEBRIS OR POTHOLES PREVIOUS. TPMS INDICATED 73 PSI IN UNLOADED VEHICLE. LOSS OF CONTROL WAS PROBABLE HAD THIS OCCURRED ON A CURVE OR WITH TRAFFIC OR RAIN. 3 OF 4 TIRES HAVE FAILED DUE BUBBLES. THIS IS A DEFECT IN MANUFACTURE NOBODIES LUCK IS THAT BAD.
DRIVING THE 70 MPH SPEED LIMIT ON AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR TIRE SUDDENLY WENT FLAT. THE ROAD WAS SMOOTH, FLAT AND CLEAR OF DEBRIS. CHUNKS OF RUBBER FLEW IN THE AIR BEHIND ME HITTING UNFORTUNATE MOTOR CYCLES TRAVELING BEHIND ME. I WAS ABLE PULL OVER FROM THE PASSING LANE TO THE SHOULDER. THE OUTER SIDE WALL WAS COMPLETELY GONE WITH THE TREAD AND INNER SIDE WALL IN TACT. I PUT MY SPARE ON AND CONTINUED MY TRIP. THESE TIRES WERE PURCHASED 18 MOS AGO. I WILL NOT PUT MY TRUST IN COOPER TIRES AGAIN.
ROLLOVER ACCIDENT OF 2005 CHEVY SUBURBAN. RIGHT REAR TIRE SEPARATED TREAD AT HIGHWAY SPEED. TIRES WERE BIG O PATHMAX LT245/75R16. TIRES HAD 10,465 MILES OF USE AT TIME OF ACCIDENT. THE TREAD ON REMAINING INFLATED TIRES SHOWED BELTS BETWEEN TREAD EVEN THOUGH THE TREAD ITSELF LOOKED OK. DRIVER WAS INJURED, VEHICLE WAS TOTALED.
