TIRE FAILURE DUE TO PLY SEPARATION. 50% OF MY TIRES EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM. ONE FAILURE WAS CATASTROPHIC, RESULTING IN DAMAGES TO THE TRUCK. THIS EVENT COULD AND HAS CAUSED INJURY AND DEATH FOR OTHERS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCE THIS TYPE OF FAILURE. TIRES HAVE ABOUT 20,000 MILES ON THEM AND PROPER INFLATION AND RECENT BALANCE.
I WAS EXTREMELY LUCKY BECAUSE I HAD JUST GOTTEN OFF THE FREEWAY AND WAS PULLING INTO THE PARKING LOT OF THE AUCTION THAT I WAS ATTENDING. ON FRIDAY, JUNE 21, 2014 WHILE ON A FRIENDS PROPERTY IN PLACERVILLE, CA, MY SPARE TIRE FELL OFF THE UNDERSIDE OF THE BED OF MY TRUCK. I'D BOUGHT THE TRUCK NEW IN 2003 AND DON'T RECALL EVER HAVING USED THE TIRE SINCE I BOUGHT IT NEW. I WAS ABLE TO FIND A COUPLE OF THE PARTS THAT SECURED THE SPARE UNDER THE BED OF THE TRUCK. IN ONE SENSE, I WAS GLAD IT DIDN'T HAPPEN WHILE ON A FREEWAY DOING 65 MPH. WHAT A CATASTROPHE THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN FOR OTHER DRIVERS BEHIND ME. THE VEHICLE IS NOT USED FOR OFF-ROAD PURPOSES.
TIRE TREAD IS DETERIORATING, CHUNKS OF TREAD IS FLAKING AND FALLING OFF TIRE. FOUND A SECTION OF TREAD ON SECOND AND THIRD LINE OF TREAD THAT IS STARTING TO SEPARATE FROM TIRE. TRUCK HAS BARELY 10,000 MILES ON ORIGINAL TIRES WITH VERY GOOD TREAD, TRUCK HAS AIR PRESSURE MONITOR AND IS CHECKED REGULARLY. TIRES ARE DEFECTIVE. I WANT TO GET THEM REPLACED, BEFORE AN ACCIDENT, DAMAGE OR DEATH OCCURS!
