Type any tire size below; we'll compute its overall-diameter delta against the OEM 245/45R19 and verdict using the ETRTO ±3% rule.
Common upgrade paths
- Plus-1: 245/40R20; one rim size up, 0.13% OD change. Sharper steering, mild ride penalty, modest cost premium.
- Plus-2: 245/35R21; two rim sizes up, 0.26% OD change. Noticeable ride penalty, higher pothole risk, meaningful tire-cost premium.
Use the plus-size calculator to evaluate any rim step against the OEM size.
How to choose tires for the 2018 chevrolet impala premier
The 2018 Chevrolet Impala Premier ships from the factory on 245/45R19 tires mounted on R19 wheels. Only one approved fitment is documented for this model year, so replacement options should match the original size exactly unless a plus-size upgrade is being considered. The Compatible alternative sizes table above lists every safe substitution within the ETRTO ±3% overall-diameter tolerance.
Tire choice on the Chevrolet Impala comes down to three trade-offs that matter more than brand loyalty: load index (must equal or exceed the OEM number), speed rating (must match or exceed the placard), and UTQG treadwear (higher means longer life, lower usually means stickier rubber). Owners replacing factory tires with the same compound class, for example all-season for all-season, generally see no change in ride characteristics or fuel economy. Switching categories (performance summer to all-season touring, for example) is where the trade-offs show up at the contact patch.
For 2018 Chevrolet Impala Premier owners considering a plus-size upgrade, the safer option is a Plus-1 step (one rim size up with a 10-point aspect drop and ~10 mm of additional section width). Plus-2 is technically viable on this chassis if the alternative-sizes table lists a Plus-2 candidate within tolerance, but expect a meaningful ride-harshness penalty and a tire-cost premium of 30–60% per tire relative to the OEM fitment. For winter use the recommended pattern is one width step down (e.g. from a 235 to a 225) with the aspect ratio bumped up to preserve overall diameter; narrower tires apply higher contact pressure per square inch on snow, which translates directly into shorter braking distances. The plus-size calculator evaluates any specific rim step against this OEM size.
Before purchasing, verify the tire size on the driver-door placard of your specific 2018 Chevrolet Impala Premier, since trim levels and option packages can shift the original fitment from what is documented here. The placard reading is the authoritative source per FMVSS 110, and dealers will reference the placard rather than aftermarket catalogs when validating warranty claims.

I'M A 68 YEAR OLD MALE DRIVER,WHO WHEN BUYING A PRODUCT EXPECT A QUALITY MADE AMERICAN PRODUCT. I HAVE HAD TWO SIDEWALL FAILURES ON THE OEM EQUIPMENT TIRES THAT CAME ON MY CAR. THE PROBLEMS WERE POTENTIALLY OF A FATAL NATURE IF NOT DISCOVERED DURING A ROUTINE MAINTENANCE CHECK. I OWN TWO VEHICLES WITH THE EAGLE LS-2 TIRES, I HAVE BEEN TOLD GOODYEAR DOES NOT WARRANT SIDEWALL FAILURES.
THE TIRES ARE WEARING TERRIBLY. THIS SEEMS TO BE A ALIGNMENT OR SUSPENSION PROBLEM BECAUSE THE TIRES WEAR ON THE INSIDE. THERE HAS NEVER BEEN AN ACCIDENT IN THIS CAR. THE REAR TIRES SEEM TO BE THE ISSUE. ABOUT A YEAR AND 1/2 AGO, I BOUGHT VERY EXPENSIVE 80,000 MILE TIRES TOP OF THE LINE UNKNOWINGLY THAT THERE WAS A DEFECT. THE TIRES WERE COMPLETELY TRASHED- THE WIRES WERE STICKING OUT OF THE INSIDE OF THE TIRE WHEN I BROUGHT THEM INTO MY TIRE DEALERSHIP. THE MANAGER THERE TOLD ME TO CHECK ON A POSSIBLE RECALL BECAUSE HE SEES THIS HAPPENING WITH ALL THE 2007 CHEVY IMPALAS THAT HE WORKS ON. I AM AFRAID THAT IT COULD CAUSE A ACCIDENT OR WORSE.....
A FRONT TIRE DEVELOPED A BUBBLE PROTRUDING FROM A SIDEWALL CRACK ON THE INSIDE OF MY GOODYEAR LS-2 TIRE. A SECOND LS-2 FAILED FROM A SIMILAR SIDEWALL CRACK AT JUST OVER 30,000 MILES. MY 3RD LS-2 IS CURRENTLY FAILING ON THE INTERIOR SIDEWALL WITH ABOUT 48,000 MILES ON THE CAR. THE TREAD WAS GOOD ON ALL TIRES REPLACED.
ALL 4 TIRES SHOWED TREAD SEPARATION WITH MILEAGE BETWEEN 34000 AND 49000 MILES. THE TREAD BUBBLED UP ON THE INSIDE TREAD EDGE OF ALL TIRES. I HAD 3 FLAT TIRES DUE TO THIS DEFECT. GOODYEAR ONLY OFFERED WHAT THEY CALLED "GOOD WILL" REPLACEMENT AT ABOUT HALF PRICE. I PAID TO HAVE THE FIRST 2 REPLACE ON 02/16/2013 AND 11/04/2013. BOTH OF THESE TIRES WENT DOWN AFTER HIGHWAY DRIVING. ON 11/19/2013 I ROTATED THE TIRES AND NOTICED THE REMAINING 2 ORIGINAL TIRES WERE SHOWING SIGNS OF SEPARATION ON THE INSIDE EDGE OF THE TREAD. CONTACTED GOODYEAR AND THEY WOULD ONLY DISCOUNT THEM BY HALF AFTER HAVING 4 OUT OF 4 TIRES GO BAD. I LEFT THE GOODYEAR STORE AND AM HAVING 4 MICHELIN TIRES PUT ON. I THINK GOODYEAR SHOULD REFUND ME WHAT THE FIRST 2 TIRES COST ME AND THEY CAN HAVE THEM BACK. I DON'T THINK THESE TIRES SHOULD BE ON THE ROAD THEY ARE NOT SAFE.
Complaints are voluntarily submitted to the NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation and are not verified by NHTSA; they represent owner-reported problems, not proven defects. Counts can be useful as a relative quality signal across comparable tires or vehicles.
