How we ranked these tires for the pontiac sunfire

We started with the latest model-year's OEM tire size; 195/65R15; and filtered our catalog of 22,000+ tires to those offered in that exact size. From there, four parallel rankings:

For sedans and compacts, the all-season touring tire below is the best default; long warranty, low cabin noise, reasonable cost per mile. Switch to the quiet pick if highway droning is a deal-breaker; switch to the winter pick if you see significant snow each year. Use the side-by-side comparison above to weigh the trade-offs against your specific driving; highway-heavy, winter-state, performance-oriented, or budget-constrained.

TIRES COMPLETEY EXPLODED AND EVENTUALLY REPLACED THE RIMS, AND SINCE THE THIRD TIME I HAVE NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE TIRES. I HAD TO HAVE A COMPLETE SET OF BRAKES PUT ON, WHICH I HAD TO PAY FOR. I AM NOW HAVING TO FACE PAYING OVER $1000 FOR A NEW TRANSMISSION, THE HEADLIGHTS HAD PROBLEMS NOT EVEN A MONTH AFTER I GOT THE CAR. THE RADIATOR HAD A WHOLE IN IT FROM A SCREW THAT CAME LOOSE FROM UNDER THE HOOD AND IT WAS SHOT BACK UP INTO THE RADIATOR, THEY GOODWILLED THIS.

NHTSA complaint 153937 · 1997 vehicle

I WENT TO LOOK AT MY BRAKES AND FOUND THAT INSIDE MY TREADS AS WELL AS OUTSIDE MY TREADS THE RUBBER IS CRACKING. THE TIRES ARE JUST OVER A YEAR OLD WITH 25,000 MILES ON THEM. PLACE OF PURCHASE WAS CONTACTED BUT DUE TO A MOVE I AM UNABLE TO GET TO DEALER HAVE TO FIND CLOSER DEALER THAT SERVICES THE TIRES.

NHTSA complaint 411041 · 2001 vehicle

WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH THE PASSENGER FRONT TIRE SEPARATED AND THE TREAD SEPARATED FROM THE STEEL BELT. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE SAFELY ONTO THE EMERGENCY LANE. THE CONTACT SATED THE TIRE DID NOT DEFLATE; HOWEVER, THE WHEEL WELL AND THE REAR TIRE WERE DAMAGED. THE TIRE WAS REPLACED AT A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP. THE LOCAL MECHANIC STATED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE WAS ALSO CRACKED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WERE 90,000. UPDATED 12/30/10

NHTSA complaint 797585 · 2003 vehicle

PURCHASED 4 TIRES ON 1/24/2007 FROM SEARS ROEBUCK ON CONCORD PIKE WILMINGTON DELAWARE AND HAD 4 VALVE STEMS REPLACED AT THAT TIME, ON JUNE 11TH 2008 AFTER GOING ONLY 8,000 MILES ON THE TIRES WE HAD THE TIRE GO FLAT FROM A DEFECTIVE VALVE STEM. TODAY WE HAD ANOTHER FLAT ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY FROM ANOTHER DEFECTIVE VALVE STEM. IN CHECKING THE REMAINING TWO TIRES THEY ALSO HAVE A SERIOUS CRACK IN THE SAME LOCATION. I FEEL THIS IS DEFECTIVE PRODUCT TO HAVE ALL 4 VALVE STEMS GO BAD AFTER 1 YEAR AND IN THE SAME LOCATION.

FAQ

What's the best all-season tire for the Pontiac Sunfire?
The all-season touring slate above ranks the top options for the 195/65R15 OEM size. The leader is selected by matching pontiac-segment fitment, all-season compound class, and premium-brand quality bonus. For most Pontiac Sunfire owners, the all-season touring pick is the best one-tire compromise; long warranty, low noise, reasonable cost per mile.
Should I get a cheaper tire for my Pontiac Sunfire?
The budget slate above ranks tires by cost-per-warranty-mile, ignoring brand premium. The budget pick is genuinely competitive on durability metrics; the trade-off is shorter warranty and slightly higher cabin noise, not actual safety risk. If you drive less than 15,000 miles a year, the budget pick will outlast your replacement window regardless.
Does the Pontiac Sunfire need winter tires?
If you see more than 5 snow days a year or drive at sustained temperatures below 7 °C, yes; winter compounds stay pliable in cold where all-season rubber hardens, which translates directly to shorter braking distances. The winter pick above is 3PMSF severe-snow rated and works for the 195/65R15 OEM fitment. Storage cost is real (4 extra tires somewhere), but the safety margin in winter conditions is substantial.
Can I run a different tire size on my Pontiac Sunfire?
Plus-size and minus-size alternatives within ±3% overall diameter are typically safe per the ETRTO standard. See the 195/65R15 upsize options for the full categorised alternatives table with verdicts.
Where can I buy these tires?
Each tire links to its detail page with live pricing from our online retailer partners. Out-the-door cost (including mount, balance, TPMS service, and disposal) varies by state; use the install cost calculator for a realistic estimate.
